I think that they are just dangerous machines. I look at them kind of like the Darwin theory, the ones that didn't kill the guys flying them went on.

It was just two years ago that I came up on my friend Mark's crashed 1905 replica. His was an exact replica and I think that was the problem. They are very hard to control pitch, among other things.

I watched the Curtiss Pusher fly at OshKosh and he was in a steady PIO in pitch. Talking to the builder, it doesn't meet current W&B standards and he has to hold constant forward pressure on the yolk. Sounds fatiguing and looks pretty sketchy in the air. He's either lucky or good though as he's already put some impressive air miles on it.
