I am interested in a data plate, N#, & logs for a sportsman 2+2 (or something similar/same) Found a de-registered plane but would prefer to not go the exhibition experimental route.

Already been in contact with a DAR & will go the route mentioned if no other option.

It is indeed a Wagaero. I am going to look at one in the morning an 84 year old man is selling. He is taking the data plate off it and reporting it as "destroyed" to the faa. (Worried about liabliy, even though there is none) I have a DAR who can re register it exhibition experimental. He says all that needs to take place is to write a letter every year to the faa and list 4 or 5 air shows you plan to attend. Beyond that he says you can fly it as a typical exp. I wish it would just go back to Homebuilt status.
