I'm trying to help my dad out. He needs 4 pistons with rings for an O-290D to get his Cessna 120 up and running again. Any leads would be appreciated.

the 290-d is the same as the 435-1 or -A.
El Reno air in El Reno Oklahoma used to be the best supplier but also check Ebay and Av web.

I just googled them and it appears they are out of business.

Yes I bought from both Gibson and Elrino in the past. a standard piston for an 0290 D is getting really hard to come by. I have two chrome cylinders and two standard steel cylinders that I'm trying to get pistons for I can buy new rings from aircraft specialties.
I'm going up to Kelso on Sunday to look at a complete engine and it's been sitting for quite a while I don't know if I'll find anything that's usable or not.

I spoke to El Reno fairly recently and he's alive and well. Telephone only. Old time service and communication. I have new O-435 pistons. No rings. I'm not sure they are the same catalog number.

ECI still produces rings. My Jugs were redone by by Aircraft Cylinders of America in 2008 and Don George engines just completely went through them 3 months ago. The previous owner glazed them in 2008 and has been burning oil ever since. Also ebay has the high comp pistons pretty regularly on there from the D2 to raise comp to 8.5:1. If you are going to update, might as well get a few more ponies

Maybe Fresno Air Parts? They have a big ad in the very front of TAP. It shows parts lists for several Continental engine, no Lyc's shown but worth a call maybe?
Also, Jerry Meyers Aviation in Butte MT buys & sells engine parts.

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!
No pistons but I do have a set of rings, still in the original packages.
Lyc. part # 65663-P10
Dia. 4 7/8 + .010
Width 1/8
Wedge
Compression type
Also matching oil rings
May have some other o-290 parts as well, will look next time I'm at the hangar.
Can send a photo of rings.

Thanks flyfish. He already has some oversized pistons and rings but needs the original.
What do you fly out of Angwin? I'm not too far from there and make it up there every once in a while.

Do you know if those pistons are oversized or standard? From what I understand early O-435 pistons are the same as O-290D pistons.
Thanks,
Rob

Rob,
C-180.
Niner Rip 9 for bike.
Always up for a ride on the trails to the east of the airport.
The rings I have are actually O-435 parts that were going to be used in an O-290 in a T-18, but that was many years ago. Just looked up the part numbers to confirm.
