For a first airplane purchase, I would say definitely stick to North America

The S-7 would be my first choice over the Highlander mainly because the tandem seating. Nothing wrong with a Highlander but the Tandem seating in the S-7 feels like you are wearing it rather than sitting in it. I have never flown either but this is my opinion from sitting in both. The S-7 looks like a blast to fly!

Both wives I have had don't like riding in back. Those of us who have flown sticks for years don't feel comfortable with stick in left hand and throttle in right hand, however.

I've heard that before and never really understood that. Drive a car typically with my left hand, shift with the right. It just felt natural when I got into that first 172. I've spent more time in the left seat than the right over my time in the air and it was weird to me when I first started flying tailwheel aircraft with the throttle on the left.

HOWEVER, lol.... I have yet to fly a "true" stick with my left hand. Lancair Columbia and whatnot I guess really don't count.

I had a visiting Italian microbiology researcher, (SUPER educated, multiple advanced degrees) and para glider pilot, ( cute also) tell me once after eyeballing my tandem S-7, "oh I see, the woman rides in back." While we did other things together.... she never did go up in the 7. But she did go up in a 172 her (older and married) landlord flew. #-o

One night at the local watering hole in Inkom, she asked the bartender what kind of wine they had, and they told her "white or red, and it comes in a box," that also disgusted her.

My wife loves tandem seating and much prefers the back seat of the Husky over the right or left seat of the 185. She is a pilot herself but hasn't checked out in the Husky yet.

I had the same thoughts, given I had over 1500 hours in helicopters when I flew my first "stick" airplane... which required left hand on stick and right hand for the "central" throtte. I was distinctly uncomfortable – for maybe 5 minutes. Then I forgot all about it, and have since flown just about equal number of hours with left- and right-hand sticks. I don't even think about it any more... Kind of the same adaptation process as my first use of heel brakes (7ECA) – after taxiing up and down for 5 minutes, I no longer even thought about where the brakes were...

My current RANS S-6ES had a center throttle. If someone really wanted to fly with right hand on the stick, they could fly from the R/H seat. I've got a couple of friends who even built their panels to accommodate that, but you don't really need to look at the ASI, VSI, or ALT very often, and there's nothing else to look at, so... And since most of my Army flight time was in the left seat as the Instructor Pilot, I was already used to getting in from the left side, and many more years of climbing into the left seat for fixed-wing flying reinforced that, so I just sit in the left seat and fly with the left hand...

You just have to keep trying new wives until you get one that will ride in a tandem plane.

Totally kidding of course. If I'm not going into a tight airport I put her up front. She's not a pilot at all but I've got her up to speed on mixture, starter button, dialing radio frequencies and the one I forgot the first time - hitting "ident"

I'm setting up my Kitfox so it can be flown equally well from both sides. Two identical displays, one on each side. Swap them with the turn of a knob and go fly.

Side or yoke hand made no difference with yoke. Just never got used to Luscombe in the little time in left seat for brakes to taxi. Mostly instruction from right seat.

Had one, have one. Most of my flying was alone or with a student. Our airplanes are similar to the Cavalryman's horse, which he took care of before himself. He was not allowed a wife unless he was a commissioned officer.
