YellowMaule what's your 20?

When I used to fly floats in Seattle I'd get by Poulsbo and Hood canal. Just wodering if you are out of Apex? I've been in there once in my 185. If I remember correctly there are two other strips just south and southwest of Apex as well.
If you are around in the fall I'd like to get together. We come over to Gig Harbor (they live west near Raft Island/Kopachuck state park) in September to visit friends I used to fly with. His family has a couple of houses near that uphill strip on Rocky bay near the head of Case inlet. About 5-8 miles southish of Apex/Silverdale. They are inside the sandspit about a half mile south of that strip just before you go around the corner into Vaughn Bay. Always wanted to do the spit at low tide but was always on floats then. Have you ever landed the spit at the north end of Dabob bay on Hood? I rolled it once in my 185 but only had 7.50's at the time.

G3, I'm familiar with Apex and one strip to the southwest of that (Leisureland),not aware of another one in that area.Other than Bremerton of course!
Unfortunately I've never seen the strip near the head of Case Inlet. I have seen some good-looking spits/sandbars, but am too chicken to land on them without walking them first. Plus most or all are private property, often belongng to shellfish farmers. Washington is not beach-landing friendly when it comes to public land, unfortunately.
I fly over Dabob Bay fairly often, same thing applies to the spit you mention near the head of the bay- but I'd probably call it a tideflat. If you look close, you can see where there are/have been oyster boxes (or whatever they call them). Broad Spit is about halfway up Dabob Bay on the west side, I'm not too sure who owns it but several friends have camped/picnic'd there with their skiboats and/or floatplanes.
My old boss used to have a place down that way- when he headed out, we'd ask him "ya gonna be at dabob bay all day, Bob?"

01V, You are right on the dabob bay spit. My brain fart, it is halfway up, not at the head.
If you're out shreddin' around the south sound go have a look for that strip on the east shore of rocky bay. One of the houses was for sale a few months ago in the pink pages of GANews. It's about 1,500ft., E-W, uphill to the east, ends right at the trees. Downhill departure to the west shooting out over the bay. Really sweet spot, always dreamed of it. Fifteen years ago there weren't many houses there. Mainly the guy that started it. Had a Mooney in a pull through hangar at his house right on the water.

I remember seeing that ad, and trying to figure out where it was. As I recall, the ad stated it was in/near Gig Harbor. If it'd said near Belfair or Allyn or Key or on Case Inlet, it woulda been more accurate. maybe he was trying to avoid having a bunch of curious looky-loo's floy in just for the fun or it.
Just looking at a map on my wall-- I see that Vaughn Bay is right across Case Inlet from "Treasure Island". Cool!
I'll take a look around next time I'm down that way, if this blustery/rainy wx ever quits. Enough already!

Yes, we are located on the North end of APEX for the time being. I know the strip to the South off Case inlet. I have flown low (above 500') along the beach several times and have often thought of stopping in and saying Hi. There's no "X" in sight last I noticed.
There is one other obscure strip in Kingston about 12 NE of APEX. It is privately owned and while I have never been in there, I have found his DW complete with the sign that reads "Property is protected by rabid Pit Bull with AIDS, enter at your own risk." Not exactly a welcome mat. A friend of the family has offered to make an introduction but none to date. I understand he keeps a 182 in there and has had a couple of issues with trees and subsequent rebuilds. Eric, if you're out looking, it's about a 1/4 mile West of the Kingston JR High and sits North/South.
I will also throw in with Eric in that the majority of beaches are privately held and most are farmed. Though that being said, my son made the comment that when we were flying home one day along the beach line that the people were very friendly and were all waving. I guess they do that when you're looking in their windows! (above 500')
If you ever get up our way, stop in and if any one says anything about it being a private strip, tell 'em your visiting me. Our hangar is just North of 17, that goes for anyone that stops in!
Kurt
BTW, I am looking for a set of straight floats for our M-4. 2440's are preferred but am open to Aqua's, PK's Etc. Thanks!

Thanks Kurt,
I appreciate that.Sounds like if you were to go to the Kingston strip with a .357 it wouldn't be a problem, just don't get spattered with the AIDS blood!

The .357 is OK but makes an awkward club. I am more of the 12ga fan for Bad Dogs and the two legged variety!
My goal is to get into this strip this winter. Ironically, on the Kitsap Penninsula, we have six strips around here. Kingston is the only one I haven't made yet. There is still room on the handle for another notch though! Look up an online sectional. You'll see three of them, maybe four. But this is a little area. The area we're moving to has 33 strips in a five to seven mile radius. BUSY! most on the same freq.

I'm with Kurt, I ALWAYS fly at 500' along the beach. Isn't that what that little knob on the altimeter is for? I think that's what they mean by "altimeter setting"- I've heard that mentioned before. :P
Kurt, where are all these Kitsap strips? I probably know them all but let's see: Apex (paved),Leisureland,Vaughn's, Port Orchard (paved),the ones mentioned at Case Inlet and Kingston, where else? There was one shorty charted up north at Foul Weather Bluff (named "Fat Chance" or something like that!) but I could never spot it.
The strip at Kingston you're talking about- is that the kinda overgrown one with the dogleg in it? Doesn't look very landable to me, diseased dog or not- too overgrown. That guy needs to make a few passes with his 182 to knock the brush back!
I'm sure there's some others-- low-profile backyard specials that the owners want to keep that way. There's a couple like that up here in Jefferson County too.

I remembered this airstrip was mentioned o the forum a while back. Yesterday an airplane ended up on the bottom of Case Inlet (an arm of south Puget Sound), looked from the KOMO-4 TV footage to be a low-wing nosewheeler. According to the news report (which are notorious for being wrong), the airplane was getting ready to land at this little strip when he "radio'd the tower he had lost power". Apparently two souls onboard, & they both got to shore OK. Hope to find out more later, but probably won't.

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!

I saw that on national news. Glad they got out and apparently did not flip the plane on impact with the water. Showed one guy being pulled to shore by a Kayak. I thought maybe it was a high wing, but under water it was tough to tell. Keep us informed.
