Dead Stick Takeoff

I can assure you the pilot in this video has good judgement and skills. If you looked closely you can see he not only did a dry run he paced his takeoff spot and put a meter on the grad. I believe anyone feeling a Darwin award was even to be closely mentioned with this pilot should perhaps take a few glider lessons and get over the fear of powerless flight. My dad taught me when I was about 14 that engines don't make an airplane fly, they just make them go further.

Dont mind them Lynn, the ones making those comments are a bunch of wet down your leg I am calling the fed types. And they know all there is to know about flying anywhere.

Tis a shame one wants to share some great flying skills ans the babies continue to cry.

You guys will have to Make the Austin flyin next year. It will be worth your trip.
Funny I didnt see any of the BCP super pilots there. And a good time was had by all

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

That simply looks like some good ole backcountry fun to me! Good shit all the way around....

The Highlander is a super sweet little bush plane and the story of Lynn and her Highlander is a very interesting one. Check it out here if you like... Ya'll be nice to her now... ya here

'STOL hilltop fun in my Highlander'. Looks like a capable aircraft, and pilot.

I think a couple of posters are being a little melodramatic about the rocks - I reakon you'd only have to fart on the left rudder pedal to aviod em

...remember, life is uncertain, eat desert first!
... and, those that pound their guns into plows, will plow for those who don't.

Now we're talking!

Two thumbs up from this guy!
I love it when someone actually knows how to fly their sled!
At least he doesn't have to worry about hitting the rocks if the engine quits!

Shuttle

:o That's right the ASTRONUTS do it all the time in a brick with wings and most of them don't have nearly as much flight time as "Taildrgfun".

Just looked up the current pilots/astronauts on the website .... flight times range from 3,000 to 5,700 hours the application says you need 1000 pic jet to be competitive. That and you should have military training. :( Guess I can't apply    I've never been in the military.

You just need to be happy riding in the back, all you need is a degree as a botanist, chemist, etymologist, or any other kind of "ist" to be a back seater astronaut these days! By the way, cool little airyplane you got there, sister...

The mission specialists are hired as scientist of some sort. However, they all get T38 training and have to fly a certain number of hours per month. They also learn the IFR system. Funny though, unless they are a pilot for NASA, they don't get to land or take off the T38. Their flights begin and end at 200' AGL.

Is that Hilander a certified LSA or is it a kit you build?

Most people build them up from kits but Just Aircraft will also do complete planes. This forum is the best location for for owner/builder information about the Highlander.

Specs and Kit info:

(their website is really weak, but they tell me a new one is in the works)

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.
