within 200 hours from brand new one cracked one head broke off and a 2x3 inch chunk of crome fell off and went into the engine. We contacted them and got no help whatsoever. so $10 000 later all I can do is badmouth them every chance I get and hopfully prevent somone else from wasting there money, or worse!

Bad news! What kind of engine, and how long ago?

It was a IO-550 I hope you guys that have them have better luck than we did. the guy who does our engines now wont install them even if the customer brings them in he will loose the work rather than have his name atached to an engine with ECIs on it!

I \put a set of steel ECI cyl's on a C145 at major in 1991 & it was still going strong at 1100 SMOH when I sold it 8 years later. I did have trouble after several hundred hours with a couple exh valves sticking. I went through & checked all of them after the second one stuck- a total of 3 or 4 required reaming. These smaller Continentals are notorious for loose valve/guide clearances requiring new guides well before TBO, so I think ECI just sets them up really tight. Probably a good idea to double-check the valve stem/guide clearance before installing a new cylinder, instead of assuming that it's right.

The really sad part of that story is that ECI was so unresponsive. My experience with them has been just the opposite. Hope they have turned over a new leaf.
