Turned out to be a great day bumming around the sky in Oregon.
Lunch in Wheeler. My friend John met me at Nehalem Bay and drove to lunch, he even bought!

Close to Tillamook airport, did a stop and go on the way to Pacific City.

Sandlake OHV riding area. I can land here if I get a OHV sticker.

Needed to get my 1 hour walk in so I headed into the dunes.

I love Pacific City, found it about 20 years ago while roaming around the Oregon Coast windsurfing. I've spent 1-2 weeks at the OR Coast every year since... and have since flown into most of the spots along the coast including Pacific City.

There used to be a funky old HW store there, one of those added-on conglomerations with varying floor slopes and a mixture of hardware, marine stuff, and airplane stuff. The owner was building an RV4 on the many-year plan. Had the finished wings hanging up in the store. Probably the coolest hardware store I've ever been in. Sadly it burned down later, along with most of the RV4 project. But rebuilt with the new HW store now there--or at least as of a few years ago last time I was there.

Saw your posts about building a getaway there--congrats! Keep posting on any get-togethers in Pacific City and we'll join in from Santa Rosa some time.

I am going to mow the grass and talk to the county. Anyone want to get lunch. It is suppose to be beautiful 6.5 hours yesterday from Caveman to Troutdale didn't get the flying out of my system.

Do you have any (permanent) tiedowns at your VIP spot? Not a bad idea, hopefully nobody would be rude enough to be using them when you get there.
Easy to do some concrete ones if no one officials watching, a friend of mine used some mobile-home tiedowns for guest parking at his home strip.

No permanent tie downs. The Maule won't fly with -7 on flaps till 70 MPH wind so I don't worry about it. I will use the Claw for over night.

I don't tie my airplane down because I'm worried about it flying away, it's because I'm worried about it getting blown around or blown over. Chocks can only do so much.
Don't know about you, but I'm less inclined to tie down when I have to set anchors, as opposed to just hooking onto something already in place.

Your right hotrod. It's insured. It would take a ton of wind to blow that heavy thing over.

Wups won't be there. The old ww2 vet I am taking wants to go to Tillamook. Don't come. We r driving to town with his daughter.

What a great day! I got to fly to lunch from Pacific City to Tillamook with a 91 year young WWII combat veteran. Mike was there at Normandy and later The Battle of the Bulge. He is the man I bought the Pacific City lot from.

Later I met another WWII Air Force combat veteran. Gene flew B-25s These guys are almost gone and it is such an honor to be in their presents.

Some agency is building a new sewer pumping station. They brought in a crane next to the runway. Nice touch!

Better not drift west of the runway.

God those tires look good Rob! You'll have to show me that beach next time we fly together I was stuck at work all day today, but think I might head out for a quick flight. It's too nice not too. Got my camping gear all cleaned up and getting it organized for JC next week, yee haw! We're leaving Friday after work, hopefully airborne by 4PM. Can't wait..
