Scout, if they have a plowed runway I will bring the cardboard Connie in. I am sure there will be a good crowed from Brainerd heading over to Hayward.

Following is the latest lake report that was circulated to the local pilots:

I've been working with Harold Burton, from Hayward, to assess the
conditions on Round Lake for the fly-in on Sunday. This would probably
apply to any flying where you intend to land on the ice, in this area.
The snow we had in December was heavy enough to sink the ice, so water
flowed on top of the ice and made a layer of slush, as it sometimes
does. We were worried about the slush on Round Lake, until we got a
really strong South wind a while back. The wind blew most of the snow
off the top of the slush, so that it could freeze (the snow acts as
insulation).
That would be good news, except, there had been a lot of snowmobile
traffic on the lake during the period of slush. The snowmobiles left a
lot of ruts in the ice, and also, the wind drifted the snow into
windrows, so the surface is very rough, and conditions are terrible for
landing with either skis or wheels. I talked with Harold yesterday. He
told me how bad it was in Dave's bay. So bad, in fact, that with the
six inch deep ruts, wheeled planes would be in trouble. I thought maybe
we could land in the main lake and taxi in, if we were on skis, or walk
in, or have a shuttle if we came on wheels. I flew up today to check it
out. I attempted to land out in the main lake on skis and got my teeth
jarred out! Instead, I made a touch and go, so didn't find out whether,
or not, you could taxi across the ruts on skis.
So, as it stands right now, unless we get a few inches of snow to help
smooth things out, we will be shuttling to Dave's from HYR, or as in my
case, driving with a few other Members. PRAY FOR TEN INCHES OF SNOW!!
They are forecasting a small amount of snow for Thursday. If there is
enough snow to help us, we will let you know. You can be sure none of
the snow will melt. The high on Sunday is expected to be less than ten
degrees.
