12 inch numbers

Sorta planning a trip to Canada. Might want to check out the Gump estates in BC. I know that to come back into the states from Mexico, 12" numbers are required. I thought that to come in from Canada that was not the case. Somthing to do with ADIZ. Enlighten me.

Re: 12 inch numbers

I've been through with both, never had any issues. Not sure what the actual rule is.

ADIZ is the correct verbiage.... Going to AK via the interior, 12" numbers are not required *if* your airplane is legal without them, going the coast they are required regardless. I know you didn't say you were going to AK, I just thought I'd use that as an example. Here is the map, notice that you in fact cross the ADIZ to get to Mexico regardless of which way you go. Of course all of this aplies to the US law, what the locals require may be completely different, although for Canada it is not.

That was the map I was looking for. Been to Mexico a few times. The 12" numbers are not required to get into Mexico but are required to get to the US from Mexico.

AOPA covers the numbers question in one of its pages devoted to flying to Alaska. If you can't find the right page just give them a call.
