150HP citabria

New to this list. I visit the supercub.org site daily and have been trying to find a SC for quite sometime for a reasonable price (isn't that a joke). I flew a 100hp non-electric Champ and thought it might serve my purpose but someone suggested a 150hp citabria. How are these for short field performance? I am putting in a strip at my farm in northern MN and can only get 900-1000 feet of surface before I am in the swamp. I currently have a 172 but think it would be very marginal to get out.
So what's the scoop on 150hp Citabrias?
My field elevation is 1500'.

Sratarocketeer, I have spoken to the owner of the SC you mentioned. I am interested in it but when I spoke to the owner he had just finished giving a guy a ride in it that was interested in purchasing it. Told the guy to call me if the deal falls through.

I also saw three Super Cubs in the 59-65K range on Barnstormers.com - might be worth a look if you haven't seen them already. But, if you like doin' some acro a Citabria or Decathlon is a good choice. Just expect to give up some fuel for load if goin' cross-country with both seats occupied and baggage on board.

If it was me, I think I'd kinda hang loose a little while & see what develops with this Legends Cub. I posted some coments about this recently. It sounds like it will be most similar to a PA-18-95. A wide-body O-200 powered basic Cub. They're shooting for a target price of $65K for a brand new, ready to fly, LSA-compliant airplane. As a bonus, it'll be sport-pilot legal. If I had about that much dough to spend on a Cub, this'd be the one I'd be looking real hard at.

I really like Bellancas and American Champs. I think you can get a much newer aircraft for about the same amount of money. The 7GCBC Explorer has flaps, not sure if it's certififed for aerobatics, but I think it looks like a nice little airplane in the 150 HP config. I think you may be able to get a 160 HP version or STC too. I don't think the wing is nearly as long as a SC, so you dont get the awesome shortfield capabilities, but maybe short enough.

Several years ago I owned a 7GCBC Citabria, 150hp. It was a good flyer but it was a little on the heavy side. I liked the flaps, and I know it would do well in a strip that long. Mine still had the oleo stut landing gear on it and it was one of the best landing planes I have owned, ( read NO bounce), made me look almost competent as a pilot several times! Jon
