Curious: in your experience, are the brackets exhibiting exfoliation corrosion more-often-than-not on the side directly aft of engine exhaust exit?

Quite a collection and thanks for the pic's. My 1954 and 1980 don't have intergranular corrosion and the mechanic at the seaplane base up by Minneapolis said he hasn't seen much but it does seem to be a fairly common problem.

It absolutely is way more common on the right side which is why it is so important to have good gear leg seals. Keeping the exhaust out of the gear box is a good thing.

Oh boy those are some sobering photos. I think I am more amazed that these sixty year old planes have actually held up so well, (just incredibly good design IMNSHO) but we should all have a good inspection schedule at this stage.
