170B Baggage Door

I'm really interested to hear how the project goes...how much work it is, how neat the kit works out, how much you like the finished result...what you would do differently if you were putting it in a second time.

I have the Atlee Dodge (sp?) folding rear seats, so the cargo door isn't as useful for me as it would be for someone with a regular seat, but I can see how it would be a super mod for someone with a back seat installed.

Keep us posted, and send some photos along if you have any.

PS... before you take relationship advice from Gump, ask him what he flies now, and what he flew before his divorce :wink:

Ditto for me. What are the dimensions of the door, by the way? Is it the same as on a 180?

Who sells the STC?

Harry Dellicker is becoming the go-to guy for Cessna mods. He also now holds the "Texas" conversion STC's (tailwheel gear, 320/360 Lycoming, & 40 gallon "ranger" tanks) for the Cessna 150. These STC's have been owned by a few different outfits over the years, it appears that the ownership for them must be a package deal.

Having done this mod, I will say Mr. Dellicker gives great advise regarding installation of the door. If you haven't spoken with him about it recently, or didn't take notes years ago when you bought the STC, call him again! I am sure it would be well worth your time and the nickle for the phone call.

Take some pics along the way. Sure brings a lot of utility to the 170 - especially along with the extended baggage!

Punkin170b is right on... I talked to him when I started one on an old 175, and he had some great pointers. It's not a difficult mod, and doesn't particularly take that long, but it's easier when you've already done a few. Great mod and well worth the time invested.

How are you planning on getting the rear baggage approved? Just curious. Will they F/A these in your district?

Yes, I was referencing the extended baggage. Selkirk has an extended baggage stc, so I was wondering if the FAA will approve something without an stc.
