180 Float Fittings

Looking for a little help - I'm at the point of being able to install float fittings on my 1960 C180. Fuselage is in the jig and the belly skins are off and I can easily put the parts on at this stage.
So my question is where can I get drawings or pictures of someone's setup?? I have some used parts but not sure what reinforcement angles I still need. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 180 Float Fittings

It's a really big job on that late an airplane. The big job is that the belly skins have to be doubled. Lots of fitting of the skins, riveting, etc. Not sure where you can get drawings, but I'd start with Cessna.

If you've indeed got the thing all the way apart, and are fabricating skins anyway, it's probably a reasonable thing to do.

As to the fittings themselves, the "Pork chops" come with the floats. The aft blocks also come with the floats in some installations, not sure about that model.

Look up the guy advertising on barnstormers from foley mn under cessna 180. I don,t know much about him othier than he has jiggs for 180's and does a lot of sheet metal work on them. If he can't help he may know how can.

Call around for some references before you contract that gent....just saying.

There is a fellow in Embarrass, MN who does a lot of Cessna sheet metal work, and he provides paperwork to go with his work too.

Re: 180 Float Fittings

Thanks for the replys. Yup, I'm still searching around for guys who've rebuilt them over the years for info on the float kit. I'll check them guys out in MN and see if I can get some additional info.
My 180 suffered some severe wind damage and when I started taking things apart to repair what I could see was damaged turned into basically drilling every rivet out of the entire fuselage. It's finally taking shape again with all new skins and have only the bottom ones to fab and install. But before we rivet the bottom skins I want to put all the reinforcements and required parts to support floats. I can't imagine how difficult it would be to put a kit on an airworthy plane. It's been a lot of work but I'll have a brand new fuselage when done. I've got an IA who's rebuilt plenty of 180's so I'm learning a ton.
Once I get the fuse back on its gear I'll start another thread on the rebuild.
I found a Cessna document: AK180-1B for float kit install but only covers the early models (30000-50661) Does anybody have a similar document that covers later S/N's??

Re: 180 Float Fittings

Years ago I had purchased a video detailing the step by step installation of a float kit in a C-180. I loaned it out to someone and they never returned it but with a little research you may be able to find one. Also, if you belong to the 180/185 association, go to the forum and ask if any members have the drawings your looking for. I installed a float kit in a 170 years ago but the 180 is much more involved. Good luck with your project!
