180 (New Style) Fuel Vent
This subforum is meant to organize Skywagon-related topics.
Hello,
I am new to the forum and working on replacing my left fuel bladder. The one coming out is original so I must comply with AD 90-21-08 requiring me to relocate the fuel vent from above wing to under and behind the wing strut. Cessna used to sell a Service Kit SK180-6. Does anyone have a PDF copy of the instructions in this kit so that I can acquire/make the parts I need to comply with the AD (vent line, check valve, inspection panel and doubler, ect.) Thank you in advance.

From that, I assume that the SK is no longer available?
I wonder if you can get out of making that AD-mandated change because of that?
My 53 still has the overhead vent, which works great.
I dread ever having to replace the LH bladder
& therefore having to switch to the troublesome under wing vent.

The service kit is no longer available for purchase. However, that does not negate the AD from what I understand. I’m not aware of any shops that will sell a left bladder with a vent in that overhead position. They all (Eagle Fuel Cells) sell the new style “legal” vent on the far left outboard side.

I think this is what you need but you can do more research on their website. I think they formed the line to go right up to the top skin so that there it is less likely to leak fuel.

What are the problems with the under wing vent?

I have seen many comments on-line about them leaking when parked,
and also leaking (siphoning) when in-flight.

So my SN is before the applicability of this MacFarlane part (mine is a 1955). I contacted Yingling and they said "don't have the part, but here's some drawings, make it from scratch". Does anyone know if this McFarlane part is close enough to fit a 1955? I'd rather start with something close than make something from scratch.

I've got a copy of the SK180-6 instructions (5 pages).
Looks to be a photocopy of a photocopy, but it's still legible.
If you PM me your email address, I can scan it & email it to you.

I don’t believe that you need or want the mcfarlane part. Get the fuel valve for the left bladder, cut the new inspection hole, and then there will be a small bit of fuel line that goes from the left side bladder vent to the under wing vent. I did mine and haven't had any problems. I have the drawings somewhere, I think I got my parts from the wagon junkyard in canada, skywagon city. DM me with questions
