182 spruce up

Well guys its winter, and even though we havent gotten any rain (which us farmers desperately need) i decided to do a little winter spruce up on the 182. I should be all buttoned up by monday afternoon.

Here are some pictures for you on the progress...

I decided to rattle can the struts as well since they were just beat to death, our hangar neighbors run an aerial app business, so they lent me some paint stripper! WHAT A MESS!!!

Not bad for rattle can!! I would say, of course i prepped and primed with some stuff my neighbors gave me for their airplanes...they re-paint all the time

That is it for now, im pretty happy with how this has come out so far, i have Milspec Stainless cowl fastners that im ready to put in as well when i button the cowl back up!

Last but not least, didnt want any overspray right! what a mess to unwrap!!

Merry Christmas,

Looking good. Be happy that the struts are the only thing you had to strip! I've been spending several hours at the hangar lately stripping the inside and outside of my 170 and wondering what the hell I was thinking!

Boy...no joke, its even worse when you get everything painted and put away...then someone comes in and grabs the strut to tell you how smooth it is, then the stripping starts all over again!!

I started this project one week before thanksgiving!!!

Cowl looks great! Nothing like seeing fresh paint in the paint booth!

Just curious... Why shoot the struts with a rattle and not Imron like the cowl?

Re: 182 spruce up

I took the cowl to one of my really good buddies that does a lot of imron...on semi truck cabs. I did the struts in our hangar i have all the stuff to do it in the hanger, but in Central Valley you cannot spray imron due to it being a high VOC paint i guess. So i would have had to drive up to sonora or to the coast to get the paint, which my buddies did for the cowling, i said F* it ill do them in rattle can..

Thats why i like Ca so much!! My state is the posterchild and the example that all other states will soon be following in regards to environmental and biological opinions!

Btw..big, your 180 is going to be a bad ass rig man...im thinking about yanking my seats out and sending them to that same outfit that did yours, would you mind giving me an idea as to what it cost to do that?
