1955 Pacific City fly in. KPFC

As a lot of you know, I have a vacation home here.

I wish someone would still organize a fly in like this. I don't know if pilots are still interested in these small events. It is a ton of work to make these happen. Then if you get weathered out its a bunch of work down the drain.

I think the record was 150 planes. That happened back in 50s-60s I believe.

Look at all the tail draggers.

It would be pretty cool to have a fly in sometime in the future - especially to celebrate the work what the friends of Pacific City Airport accomplished the last few years preventing the sale of the airport. I really enjoyed seeing that old video. The airport looks so different today. The strip seems shorter now and much less space for parking. It would also be difficult to get that many airplanes parked there now. I have flown in on a few days and even having 8 or 9 planes on the ground is relatively tight.

Very cool, thanks for posting. Wish I wasn't so far away, but then again, with the Cessna 182 Romeo Whiskey coming alive soon, places become much closer.

Not to mention having some yahoo trying to keep it straight at 45 mph within a few feet of your parked bird.

Flew in to KPFC for the first time yesterday, perfect calm sunny afternoon. Paid a visit to the Sportsman before a quick walk on the beach.

hahaha 45 mph wind. It seems like it sometimes. Typical is 10G15mph or 15G20mph a more ruckus day is 20G30mph.

The parking is almost the same. The same open drainage ditches are there. That is what has always limited how far off the runway you can get.

Cheers...Rob

A little squirrely-ness on a landing at about 2:05,
maybe it's just the camera angle?
Kinda reminds me of the Concrete 3W5 fly-in, with a row of airplanes down the side of the runway,
but Concrete isn't quite so close.
Even so, I like to park about mid-field--
well away from the danger zone near the touchdown points at either end.

Who know what the low-wing Kinner-powered airplane is, shown taxiing at 1:26 and taking off at 2:15?

BTW what is the current status of the airport?
Does the state still own it,
did the city take it over,
or ??

Great find Rob. Where were the homebuilts/kitplanes? All factory iron and warbirds, times have changed. Cheap fuel back then, and also low wages, it eqeals out I'd guess..

Hey Eric. Current status is good, and stable. The Friends of Pacific City State Airport is a 5013C charity. Robin and Sally are the heart and soul. They have worked tireless on behalf of us pilots. The state has backed off selling or closing. We have brand new men and women bathrooms! 4 bikes and a picnic table.

I don't say this because I have a home at Pacific City. This place is special!!! Like Meigs Field, Oceano, and Kalispell. Not thay many airports right in the middle of town, where you can walk to food, bars, shopping. Oh ya, the beach.

Facebook has a page for "Friends of Pacific City State Airport" check it out. You can easily walk to motels, food, bars, brew pub. Come stay and play.

Cheers...Rob

Re: 1955 Pacific City fly in. KPFC

Rob mentions Kalispel, it's great as he says and right in the middle pretty much of town. Multiple gas stations and restaurants and a big grocery store within walking distance. AND, pilots get a discount at the Red Baron motel, also right there. That's the "old" city airport, DO NOT go to the Kalispell International airport, unless you like control towers out in the middle of nowhere! Pacific City is a pretty damn good stop also =D>
