2 180's down in the same day?

I read all the write ups about plane crashes that pop up, this seemed crazy, 2 180's in the same day? Not sure what conversation I am starting, if any, except for- be careful out there! And our planes are getting old, I feel pretty confident about my 1974- 185 airframe, but always curious to hear causes.

Cheers,

Brad

The cliff notes: From what I have found, they both hit powerlines. One scud running in Illinois, one flying low at dusk over a river in Nebraska. 3 people in the one in Nebraska and 4 in Illinois, all perished.

Edit: Can't read the article without a subscription?

On another forum it was suggested that the accident in Nebraska involved a Youtube aviation channel person.

I wondered if it could be wires at Fremont. Looking at Google Maps I found this on the south side of the river in the same area that it sounds like the plane crashed. This screen capture is looking toward the river. And to think, I've landed at numerous Idaho backcountry strips and keep thinking I want to land on the gravel road that goes by my farm and am scared a pheasant will fly up out of the ditch and ruin my day.

One nice thing with foreflight, they have lots of power lines in the aeronautical layer now

Then there is the old “ferry above 5 to stay alive” where lots of the nasty things are 500AGL and below

Some of the new garmins will even call out power lines

Age wise of the airframe, not really a big issue for most of the fleet, one of my planes was built in the 40s and it’s very issue free.

Be interesting to hear the outcome, one of the perks with the skywagons are they make a nice IMC platform when conditions allow

In many other countries, it's not even lawful to be flying under 500ft unless you are on approach for landing or taking off. You guys have it pretty good.

Be safe out there guys, or maybe the freedom for flight under 500ft will get cancelled, like half of the other fun stuff [-X
