20 Year AOPA Lapel Pin

I am sure that I am in the minority here, but my reward for paying my dues for 20 years is a lapel pin. I do not even own a suit. Now I pay those dues for the lobby efforts AOPA does. But that lapel pin just kind of backs up my notion of what that magazine is all about - jet setters and the business class aviation world. I don't think the RAF would have been sending lapel pins??

I know it's tough putting up with that stuff, but that's the way it is moving West, or just about any direction I suppose. On the plus side you can wrap it up and put it under the tree for one of your grandkids. Or better perhaps, wait until the JC fly in this coming summer and force somebody to wear it for a day. You know, a lost wager or the like, elaborate presentation ceremony etc. An award for the farthest off on a spot landing contest? You could leave it next to the sink in the restroom at Walmart. You'll never know where it might end up that way.

I got a shitload of 'em. 20, 30, and should be a 40 year pin somewhere. Something to stick on my "AvWeb" picture cap that I'll never wear.

A pin for ? years of paying dues is just an acknowledgment of being concerned enough to join. What the RAF does, and almost no other organization does, is send a hand written "Thank You" for sending money to help the cause, which I think is so much nicer and thoughtful.
