$200 burger

I thought I would change the subject a little, and chat about the airport diner experience.
The wife and I just got back from a trip trough the Sierras.
Sierraville-Quincy-Chester and I have a report.

Rodgers feild(Lake Almanor) has a great Chinese resaurant about 1/4mile from the feild. Had the Crispy Duck, very good.

Gansner airfield(Quincy) has the whole town within walking distance, but had some good biscuits and gravy at a place called Thunder Cafe.Nice town.
Dearwater Field(Sierraville) has a hot sring there, but when we walked up,there was some 1960 refugee in what looked like a leather brief on.
Showing ALL his junk,we decided to move on
Anyway, thats it for now.If you have a nice place to go,lets hear about it.
Pix to come,be safe,C

Thunder cafe is REAL good, Hot waitresses the whole bit (at least when I have been there) and yes those Sierraville hot springs are a bit on the suspect side.Mexican food is good in Sierraville though. I have found Bridgeport(O57) to be a good one. Easy walk to a bunch of good places to eat.All around beautiful place.

Fly a few mountain ranges to the east, and you'll find yourself at Mina International (3Q0).

Nice little gravel strip bladed out of a dry lakebed. Short walk in to town for a burger at Socorro's, or a cold beer at the Mina Club with 94 year old Willie Wolf at the helm, and not one, but two, houses of ill repute to take your money and guarantee a trip to the doctor with a raging dose of the clap!!!!

Places like this are what airplanes are made for.

Red Bluff

Great topic wilm tel! Good to have pireps on tasty airport food spots.

Had a great Denver omelette this morning in Red Bluff (RBL). I had heard about Valeigh's Blue Sky Cafe but never stopped before. Very nice people there. All the food looked good, and was inexpensive. Definitely one of the best airport diner joints I have eaten in.

Closer to home, the Lodi Airport Cafe has pretty good food as well.

On the west side of the Sierras you also have Wings Grill at Auburn (KAUN). Great patio right on the ramp and killer breakfasts, usually draws a bunch of neat planes on the weekends.

The Pancake House in McCall, ID! Just a short walk from the airport (McCall Air).
http://www.mccallpancakehouse.com/

Murphy, ID (1U3) for burgers!

I have not eaton at Fields, OR yet, but my friends really enjoy going down there for breakfast and lunch.

Austin, NV (9U3) for steak!!!!!!!! Although only served once a year at the fly in, in August. The entertainment is worth the flight to the Austin Fly In, too!!!!!

I'll third the recommendation for Morning Thunder Cafe at Quincy . . . and the HOT waitresses (where to they find those wenches?). Auburn for breakfast or lunch too.

Has anyone been to Watts Woodland recently? It's been several years since I visited there for lunch. The country club used to have an agreement that they would always serve pilots even though they were not members. Good food.

I fourth the Morning Thunder at Quincy. The Roundup Cafe in Sierraville is good too, just make a left from the airport and walk 15 minutes to town. No burning man types, just local ranchers, cowboys and daytime hookers.

We are getting close! As soon as someone says "I seventh the Morning Thunder at Quincy" I get to say "I eight at the Morning Thunder at Quincy."

I like the Corsair Cafe at Pine Mountain Lake (E45). The waitresses aren't all that hot and the food isn't gourmet but it's on field and there are some really cool planes in the hangars (read it as rich guys live here.)

Down south a bit at Rosmond, CA on the runway is a great Sunday Brunch beffet. At Redding, CA just south of the tower on the airport is as good a Chinese place as you can find.

Denio Juncion is pretty good.

Alices on the airport in Willows, CA has really good patty sausage.

Accross Hwy 97 at Chiliquin, Or is a good place.

All of the above you can get to before your gyro stops spinning.

Isn't it "Nancy's" on the airport at Willows?

Sorry, I keep getting that confused with Arlo Guthrie's song "Alice's Restaurant"

This may go back too far for some of you. Zane will get it though.

You all talked me into it. I'm flying up to Quincy this am for the hot food/gals at the Morning Thunder. Be monitoring 122.85 with a planned arrival around 10:30 am. See you there! If Nancy's cafe at Willows was in my backyard I'd be a regular: great food/atmosphere. Red Bluff has a good restaurant in the old terminal as well.

Quite disappointing. While food was excellent the wait staff must've been the second stringers. Won't go back on Wednesday again. Flight was great with lots of fall colors. Too bad Bumper bailed, oh well!
