2008 BCP Fly-In Safely at home check-in

I reluctantly left Johnson Creek this morning at a little after 6:00 am (MDT) in a group departure with JMTGT and MR Scout. JMTGT headed for a Emmett fuel stop and MR Scout was headed home. We stopped for fuel in Winnemucca and landed Columbia about 10:30 (PDT). I didn't miss this friggin' smoke and haze at all, while at J.C.

Anyway, we're home and JMTGT called me to make sure I had got home and to let me know he had made it also.

Several people were staying until ?...

Good to meet and put a face with so many of the screen names. I'll post some kinda' report later in the week when I get some time.

In the mean time, if you want to let others know your home safe, feel free...

Me and my two friends made it back safely Saturday afternoon. I wish I could have spent more time there. Bob

Got back to Corvallis about 1130 this morning. Was great to connect some faces with names from this forum.

My trip stats are: 963 miles, 13.6 hr, 55 gallons of fuel. Yeah, I know I've got the slow boat to JC.

Heather and I made it home around 12:00 today, met a few new people, did not meet everyone, but had a great time. Lots of nice aircraft. Great breakfast at Big Creek this AM. First camoing trip in the RV6, doable but not the best machine for the job. Speed and gas consumption is ok tho!Got a t shirt also.

Have as much Fun as is Safe, and Keep SMILIN! GT,

Got back to C83 with brother Pi around 1330 PDT after stopping in Caldwell for gas and an enormous $6 breakfast at the cafe that put us over gross for sure. Started slogging thru the smoke at what seemed not too far south of Caldwell and it only got worse. We got slapped around some coming over the Sierras, but we got thru before the sigmet was issued. Good thing too, would have been hard expalining how that blue and green lawn chair got imbedded in my skull.

Great meeting so many of the BCP'ers and in such a beautiful spot too.

Left JC Saturday morning after collecting my T shirts from Zane. Flew down to Bruce meadows where the Glastar made a landing, then on to Smiley Creek for the night. Left Smiley this morning at 8:15 with stops at Arco, Afton, and Rawlins and home at Sidney by 4:30. Smooth air at 11,500 until after Rawlins where it got a little bumpy. Loved JC and Big Creek but probably will not go back to Sulphur Creek because of the rocks even though I liked the location.
Wishing everyone the best and safe flying.

Album added

I have added an album in the events and fly in folder here JC 2008

You don't have to use the fly in album but it makes it kinda' nice to be able to browse the JC photos from all the users in one place. I'll upload the few I have there in just a bit.

Let's see whatcha' got...

180DT (Chris) and me got back around 10:00 last night. Packed up yesterday AM. Got out abot 8:30, went to Smiley for b'fast. Stopped at Gateway for a great dinner.

Great time, and great conditions. Was fun to put a face on a lot of the names. Landed a lot of (new to me) strips.

May try to make the harmonica festial.

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

My SPOT page

My dad and I made it back to southern Oregon on sunday afternoon and were greeted with a giant wall of smoke from fires near Happy Camp, CA. Really poor visibility, and about 14 miles from the homefield I gave up as it was pretty much IFR, and turned a 180 and diverted to Medford. We could see the ground but lateral viz was 1.5 SM and just plain dangerous without flying the GPS approach.

It really was the highlight of my flying career to finally make it into JC under my own command in my polished turd of an airplane. It was a monumental journey with my dad as well, and something neither of us will ever forget. We've got some great stories of the flight home that I'm not sure I can share in the forum, but the Skychicken is still in once piece...barely. All apologies to the Burns airport maintenance crew and the Medford tower controllers. :D Let's just say that I'm not as good in a crosswind as I thought I was.

It was so great to meet all you people. I really enjoyed putting faces with usernames and getting to know you. I can't wait to do it again soon. Thanks to everyone that attended. I sincerely apologize for not having enough T-shirts for everyone, and the whole business with "the list." I abandoned that pretty quickly and just sold what i had to avoid taking off with them. I'll get the shirts up in the store tomorrow so we can get them out to you.

Who is the winner of the "furthest traveled" award? As far as I know, hicountry has it with a homefield of Sydney, Nebraska. If that can't be bested, I'll have to refund him 1 t-shirt.

Nice trip

Returned to KTTD and my Sweetie is safely back in her hangar. It was a nice trip and I met lots of nice, and interesting people, at Johnson Creek.

The truth will set you on the path to being free

Zane,

Good to see you again and glad to hear your home safe.

Every now and then us tailwheel guys get slapped just so we remember who's really in charge. Glad it turned out ok.

I have been studying my shirt (great job by the way) and I can almost make out the hidden figurine.

We need to talk about doing quarterly breakfast fly-outs, just so it's not so long between grip and grins.

Oh, and on a side note, now that we know your a gun toting redneck in drag, we'll make the next fly-in, sidearm mandatory... ;-)

Yea, it was a great weekend (even though mine was truncated by the need to work for a living) I really enjoyed meeting some new folks and sharing a few stories and opinions. I gotta second Yellowbelly's plug for the Caldwell breakfast. It's Tuesday and I think I have finally finished digesting it all. The sausage links were about the diameter of Luscombe exhaust stacks and I believe there must have been at least 2 pounds of hash browns on the plate!

all for six bucks (plus the three hundred dollars worth of low lead to get there)

but it was all worth it - definitely

see you guys next time

Got back today at 3 PM Pacific. Flew all day through the desert. What a great time we had. Great day with JMTGT on the 4 wheelers at Elk City and with the other BCAH'ers under the wing of Bruce's Cessna. Met some great folks from all over the country. Didn't get my shirt as I was flying when Zane got in and all were gone by the time I got back. Looking forward to all the pix and the next get together.....Butch
