2011 FANTASY FIELD FLY-IN

Hello to All!
Here it is, your official invitation to our Fantasy Field Fly-in hosted by Kelly and Terry Sullivan.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 25th. We have had so many phone calls and emails from previous year's attendees, that I thought I better get this out there!
We've always have such a great time at our events. Last time we had 42 planes fly in, 3 or 4 powered parachutes, 2 trikes, 17 vehicles, a big brown motor coach, and a bunch of motorcycles. Boy, did we have fun, and we ate good too! There were awesome side dishes (that I managed to get some of the recipes for!) and some really scrumptious desserts.
We love having this fly-in, because it is more than just aviation: it feels more like a big family barbecue. Young and old, pilots, teachers, doctors, beauticians, engineers, blue collar and more, we all had a great time together and enjoyed the sun, good food, friends and family, flying and fun.
As always, we will provide the "grill items" and beverages.
Please bring a side dish, salad or dessert, whatever your specialty is, we know it will be good!
We will be set up with restroom facility, plus a wash-up station and we are hoping to provide more shade areas for people to relax under. We will still have plenty of off-street parking for those who choose to drive in. And yes, there will be camping sites available, especially for those who want to stay for "happy hour", hangar talk and Kelly's late night poker game. So bring a tent, stay the night, and we'll have pancakes in the morning!
Last time we had pilots come in from as far away as British Columbia, Eastern Idaho and the Bay Area. We enjoyed such a wide representation of our aviation community; from certified's to experimentals, ultralights, trikes and 'chutes. I would love to host a balloon (hint-hint), or maybe even another impromptu fly-by (like we had the first year, by a "colorful" group of Navions.)
Fantasy Field Airstrip is a private field, and is on the sectional.
The coordinates are:
N 46*35.270'
W 122*51.946'
RUNWAY 10/28
We cannot wait to see you here again.
Until then, wishing you all good flying and smooth air!

Same weekend as the Annual BCP Johnson Creek Fly-in. I suspect most traffic from this board will be there.

Actually, you'd be surprised just how many of BCP flyers have contacted us about this year's fly-in. No 5 mile finals here! We're not picky about what you fly in here with, we just like getting together, having a good time, and sharing our love of aviation. You're more than welcome to stop by!

Re: 2011 FANTASY FIELD FLY-IN

At least I was able to make one fly-in this weekend. Good turnout. 58 airplanes more or less.

First I did a quick stop on Cotton Island. The sandy ground was a bit softer than expected. Here is where I got stuck turning around. Fortunately I had my bare hands to dig out again and get it turned around. Definitely the softest field takeoff I've done.

This guy, Fletcher, driving up in his '28 ford. Fletcher is not a pilot but he likes airplanes so he built himself a field not far away from here and likes having airplanes stop in. We need to get the dimensions. Probably 1100 to 1200 feet long. Good approach and departure.

Highlanders made a good showing. The yellow one flew in from California. The far one is highly modified and has self retracting leading edge slats.

An RV on floats. The floats cost him 50mph. Probably only does 150mph now.

A very pretty champ. The picture doesn't do it justice.

That's just a fine site to wake up to in the morning.

The top of the Decker Ski Jump. Mr. Decker's 800 foot long uphill challenge. Full power generally required to make it to the top.
This was the highlight landing of the weekend.

Very cool, I used to love going to Cottonwood Island. That ski jump strip looks really cool too!

Looks like a great time! I wish I could have made it. I need to hook up with you, Craig and get Kelly and see these places. I'll buy lunch!

Cheers...Rob

Looks like a fun fly trip especially the ski jump. What end of cottonwood did you land on?

Re: 2011 FANTASY FIELD FLY-IN

I'm starting to know more of the strips up north. I need to practice more so I can fly into more of them. Kelly is definitely slumming it with me. I consider myself very lucky to fly around with him now and then.

Airplane is going out of annual on the first so no flying for me until that's taken care of.

Come over any time, Tadpole. I'll be anxious to learn more strips on the east side, once you start getting familiar with that area.

I was surprised the ski jump wasn't more difficult. Definitely fun and I was sweating it. It doesn't have a lot of room for error though. Watch out for the fence near the top and the wind sock down and on the other side. Someone just balled it up in the fence recently. He came in too fast with a tailwind. Actually it was fortunate he hit the fence or he might have hit the telephone pole. We now call it the arrest-er fence.

Next time I do Cotton, I'm going in with less fuel and all the stupid overnight gear out. It got sporty getting out.
I'll put that under the lessons learned (I hope) category.

Northwest side. I'll have to check again with Kelly about the best location. There was a track that I was in but it might have been better to be out of it. I thought that's where he and another put down last year. I just did a fly by that time and good thing I did. The standard tires wouldn't have done well at all.
