2013 Ohio Bush Planes Fly-In – Location Change, Date the Same.
The torch has been passed after 16 years of Graham Field fly-ins, and the monkey is off my back now. Last year we had a total of 92 airplanes during the three days at my place, and in case you didn’t notice it was almost an out of control event!
Now a local county airport with an active EAA chapter has agreed to host the fly-in. The dates are the same (Oct 4-6). It is about 20 miles north east of me at New Philadelphia (KPHD). They have a nice grass runway (at least 2500-3000 feet long?); along with the standard concrete one. They have a brand new hangar – club house with facilities, much like New Holstein. And it is more in the middle of our OBP play grounds, so 10-15 minutes any direction, you can be landing on hills and gravel bars, or flying to other airport restaurants.
Besides the liability that I always worried about, they have a big crew and are used to holding fly-ins. At one of their events they have a long cinder block BBQ pit where they do ½ chickens, always very good and well done. We could have that one day or night?
There are motels near by. They promised at least three courtesy cars or vans. A restaurant is on the field, and several more close by in town. There are 3 other good restaurants at airports close by for fly & eats.
With camping, showers, restrooms, motels, and restaurants. What else do we need??
This gives Bill Tracy and me more time to work on the fly outs, and plan the route for the slow trip to Tennessee the following week. I might even be able to make John Meade’s fly-in if it is still the previous week?? jg
