2015 Texas STOL Roundup video

Good day all,

Not much can be said that has not been said already. A great weekend was had by all who were able to get to Llano this year. The weather was everywhere and that led to a smaller and more intimate event. For those who made the Hill Country escape, it was an awesome gathering and great hanging out with y'all! For the rest, we missed you and hopefully next year will work out better for everyone to attend. Cooper's BBQ and Shiner Boch beer is the spice of life down here so try it when you visit.

Extra thanks again to Phil, Jimmy, and the Llano Airport folks for an amazing time. You represented Texas Southern hospitality with class! It was well run, organized, safe, and fun for all. =D>

For anyone in attendance, if you would like individual Hi-Res copies of any pictures or video clips of your airplanes, please PM or email me. I would be happy to send them out.

This is my first iMovie  (extensive consultation by my daughter Katie, thank you), so its not as polished as Zzz's. Grab a beverage, as it is 18m long. I tried to represent most everyone there.

I did have a little fun with some "turf density testing" at the end. No aircraft or pilots were harmed in the making of this video. Great job by all those who competed!

Great video - well done! I love the slo-mo clips, too - no chop to them at all! What were you using to take video, and how many frames per second were you shooting?

CapnMike,
Believe it or not the slo-mo clips were shot with a hand held iPhone 6+ at 240fps. Crazy how good this little phone camera can be. The rest was with a Canon EOS 70D. Thanks for watching!

Glad about this, at 16:35 things got really interesting. Props to Cessna and ABW for making tough products! Nice video, I enjoyed it!

Nice to see "the bounce" will live on forever in slow mo infamy! #-o
Awesome video. Loved the music selection to! I learned I'm about as good at public flying as I am public speaking.
Don't go to many fly ins but That was some of the best quality people I've ever met at one. And most of the ones I met were bcp folks. And if they weren't, I bet they are now.
Looking forward to next year. I'll bring a foam pit.

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

Re: 2015 Texas STOL Roundup video

Loved the video, RCW! Nice work.

I thought the same thing about "the bounce" as soon as I saw it in Llano--it's right up there with OregonMaule's epic contribution to the video archives. Look on the bright side, guys--you have to do something pretty spectacular to be immortalized among this bunch of characters! :) And good on ya' 55Wagon for claiming the video. I figured all of us who witnessed it were sworn to secrecy about the identity of the pilot, if for no other reason than simple karma. For those of you who weren't there, it is worth noting that 55Wagon not only made a nice recovery on that landing, but he came back on the next one to win the damn thing. Now THAT's a pilot. Lots of us have drop kicked one at some time or another (some of us maybe even more than once  ), but not so many could probably come back around and nut it on the very next approach. Much respect.

What a fun time together with old friends and new. That's what it's all about. =D>

Re: 2015 Texas STOL Roundup video

That was indeed some epic bouncing! Nothing I haven't done myself though, luckily no cameras to make me famous. 8) It's a testament to the resilience of Cessna gear. Glad you were able to capture it in 240fps.

I was reading this article someone wrote about High Sierra, using my 2013 video and article as the only source (some people with websites do that to generate content, it was like they just paraphrased whatever I had written or said.) Anyway, one of the comments on that website, which was not aviation-centric, in regard to Oregonmaule's bounce, was "Who doesn't love to watch low-hour pilots?"

I thought: You have no clue, you douche. Who doesn't love to watch any pilot in a 2000 lb taildragger land on an uphill winding gravel road at 9,400 ft MSL?. Kinda irked me but I soon calmed myself and eased back into my smug sense of self satisfaction for what we do. 8)

Nice work. I also appreciate the Dukes of Hazzard and A-Team theme songs.

Re: 2015 Texas STOL Roundup video

Ranchpilot, your checks in the mail. Thanks man.
Way back when I was younger and smarter and a much better pilot; I found myself hearing of an accident or seeing something off and saying smart things.
Like what an idiot. Or, ill never do that or ....fill in the blank.
It took me a few years and a few wtf's to come to the point of zero criticism of things that happen in a plane if I'm not in it. Granted there are some total jackasses out there, but alot of the time its just someone going through there own wtf lesson of the day. Sometimes you just straight up F@#* up.
I don't mind anyone having fun with my screw ups. Its payback for my younger years. #-o It was a lesson well learned by myself as well. A bonehead simple thing that was irritating as hell at the moment.
I'm surprised the people on the ground couldn't hear me cussing over the bark of the prop trying to catch up to my mistake.
I'm thankful for cessna gear, bushwheels, and especially slow motion photography.
I told Phil we should have a basketball type trophy for highest bounce of the year and pass it off year to year. (;
Hoping not to be back to back champ on that one. :D
