So what weather app(s) do you have on your smartphone ?

Non-aviation weather apps are not half bad sometimes when you just want to quickly get a rough handle on what weather will be like say in the next few days. Or maybe in a city several hundred miles away to where you might be flying.

I have first listed some of the common “aviation-related” weather apps. Next I have listed some “non-aviation” ones. Not all apps work across all smart phone platforms.

* What are you using and why?
* Using more than one?
* Do you use one more on the ground and a different one when in the air?

Aviation

ForeFlight
Garmin Pilot
WingX.
WSI Pilotbrief Optima
Aviation Weather
SkewTLogPro
RadarScope
MyRadar
AeroWeather
CloudTopper
Intellicast HD

I use AeroWeather for meters/tafs. One screen shows about 10 at a time that you can choose and re-order so it's gives a nice simple snapshot of what's going on in an area.

weather.gc.ca is, by far, the best non-aviation website for weather in Canada, run by Environment Canada, a gov't agency.

I always feel like the other weather channels are trying to make weather interesting, so they exaggerate phenomena. Gov't don't care about interesting.

Just the facts, ma'am.

Yes, definitely. When someone tells me about some absurd weather coming up in the forecast I know that they've been looking at some app rather than the Environment Canada forecast.

The only aviation weather app I have on my phone is Metam. It's a pretty simple metar/taf app. I get most of my aviation weather from Navcanada's flight planning site, whether mobile or on my desktop.

If you want more "meat" on your weather forecast, give my app Deep Weather a try. Its focus is to be the most convenient way to read NOAA Forecast Discussions.

I've always found the forecast discussions to be one of the highest-yielding weather products for flight planning.

I also like aeroweather a lot for Metars and TAFs.

Interesting. I've found that often the weather network actually has better weather reporting. When I was spraying and seeding I was always watching both when I could see inclemental weather coming in, and TWN was much more accurate about 85% of the time. That said, they have left me in unfavorable positions as well... I chalk that up to pilot error though.

I have Aviation Weather app from the NOAA National Weather Service. You get METAR, TAF, Surface Prog, Radar, Satellite, Area Forecasts, Hazards, Winds Aloft, ADDS Winds Graphics, and a grab bag of info titled Aviation Text.

Free for Android and Apple products.

I check airport conditions on the skyvector.com website.
Or download wx on my free Avare app, along with TFR's etc.
For weather radar, I use the free myradar app.

For Alaska weather, there's one that is unlike any other, and incredibly useful: http://avcams.faa.gov/

I wish the FAA would make it a national program. I use ForeFlight, weather underground and for quick looks at Doppler radar, My Radar.

For an app that has the Alaska FAA weather cams, I use AKAvCAMsLt (at least that's what it is titled as on my phone). It's not a free app, but gives me access to all of the weather cams at the push of a button.

I also use AeroWeather for a quick look at the current conditions at various area airports.
