2018 Annual Kern Valley Backcountry Fly-in Sept 28 - 30th

We're hosting the Annual Kern Valley Airport Fly-in on Sept 28th this year! For those who know us, Dustin Mosher, Anthony Longobardo and I are partnering this year for the event. For those who don't, come meet us and check out an amazing mountain airport in the sierras.

There will be camping, shuttle to the local microbrewery, BBQ, and hosted fly-outs to the local backcountry airstrips.

For those that have been here last year, a few notable changes:

The turnout this year is expected to be much larger, and so the fly-outs will be separated in groups - Dustin will take an "experts only" group to the new airstrips that have recently been opened and I will take a second group that will include everyone else. We will be doing out best to accommodate folks who are looking to get more comfortable with their backcountry experience this year, so being at the briefings will be REQUIRED to participate.

This year all food will be cash-only so bring cash if you want to participate in the BBQ - you can still buy your camp fee online.

We ask you to please RSVP so that we can plan the fly-outs accordingly

For you Big Tire folks, it's OK to land on the dirt between the runway and the taxis way on the north end ONLY. You've got 900 feet of usable dirt to get stopped. Then take the turn off to your right into the campground.

Great job on the flyin. Thanks
I got a little east of Barstow and didn't like the looks of the weather, so spendin the night here and make another run at it in the AM.
Good time.

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

Thank you to everyone who came out! 72 airplanes was the total final tally

We had 19 airplanes on the fly outs, with 4 making their first off-airport landings, so pretty exciting stuff, but definitely hard to manage! Next year we expect to have more leaders and get a lot more stringent on knowing exactly who will be in what group and will be coming. Comments and suggestions on this portion of the fly-in are very welcome!
