Re: S37, Nehalem Bay State Airport, Oregon

When we stayed in Manzanita in 2005 for part of the Winter we walked our friends dog there nearly every day. Oregon state parks are awesome! That one even better since the airstrip is right there too.

Re: S37, Nehalem Bay State Airport, Oregon

I was just there Wednesday. Parking area was recently mowed. Camp sites in good shape but still a bit damp. The porta-potty had not yet been delivered.

You can purchase ice and firewood from the State Park entrance kiosk - and they deliver to the airfield!

Should be a great weekend- enjoy!

Ahhhh. Very good! This will be my first overnight in R44. Can’t wait to get under the stars! The coast has been gorgeous.

Thank you for making Oregon more pilot friendly!

That was one of my stops with the 140 when I ferried it home! Easy walking distance to the beach, and a very nice and well maintained strip. Have fun!

Thank you Joe for the report. I bet you don’t miss the crowds of Southern Oahu.

Its around a half hour walk along the beach to Manzanita.

Two of our favorite restaurants are:
The Left Coast Siesta - Mexican style food.
The Sand Dune Pub - I liked their fish and chips.

Very good. I appreciate the guidance. Will definitely take note of the two restaurants.

Weather: The wind is gusting NNW 35 knots on the coast right now from the Pacific High. Probably the same tomorrow. Not fun for a low and slow aircraft on a direct flight North. It’s actually hard to walk on the ramp right now! Forecasts say light winds in the morning but, the rest of the day on the coast should be close to gale conditions.

I may just go trail riding the dunes in Florence until the gale passes. Which is cool with me. Spring in Oregon is great for riding :D

Will try S37 another time...
Aloha!

My friends wife used to own the Big Wave Cafe in Manzanita. Has to be the best location on the whole highway. Sold then divorced. Restaurant business is tough[emoji1]

“Location, location, location.” The three fundamentals of success. Has the nice lady from Kona opened her restaurant for the season in Gustavas? Loved having breakfast there :D

I’m still looking at the weather tomorrow along the coast. Note: forecasts are generally less accurate than in other regions. So an error on the side of caution is fine with me.

Re: S37, Nehalem Bay State Airport, Oregon

The heavily contrasted *diurnal winds(1) dominating weather on the Oregon Coast are lighting up a bit tomorrow. Finally heading out to Nehalem State Airport (3S7) about 08:00 PDT. I’m totally stoked! It’s an open ended trip with no set return date as of yet. Spring is in the air :D

*diurnal winds(1) light & variable in the mornings then near gale force afternoon

Cold this morning for Spring, (32) F and frost in several regions (near sea level):

Forecast: No rain, Sunny and cool dry light winds from the NNW (afternoon)

Re: S37, Nehalem Bay State Airport, Oregon

As usual something came up and I had a change of plans. Although its beautiful out here in the PNW. Too bad I’m diverting to another project. :(

Couple of fat tire tail draggers getting fuel at KONP today, they are having great weather. BTW, anybody at the Bar-B-Q yesterday?

Sorry for all the hype and pulling out!

Re: S37, Nehalem Bay State Airport, Oregon

Too bad you did not make it to Nehalem Bay. We spent Tuesday night there and had the place to ourselves for the night. A short walk along the beach to town in the sunshine. The wind did pick up in the afternoon making for some challenging landing conditions. Dave in his Pacer made it look easy.

What a small world!! Might have been you guys I saw flying along the coast. I stayed in Newport last night and will be staying tonight in Astoria. Been driving up the 101. Did stop at the Tillamook air museum and the Tillamook Dairy. Ate lots of cheese!
