Re: Saturday morning Cowboy, let’s ride...

I flew all the way to Florence and remembered I forgot the SD microchip to the VIRB camera! I am flying back to get it. Then resume my southbound flight to the dunes for a little action.

Re: Saturday morning Cowboy, let’s ride...

Instead of flying south to the dunes this morning, I flew around looking for a logging road to land on. Climb aboard and let’s get dirty looking for a cool LZ to explore...

Re: Sunday morning Cowboy, let’s ride a dirty backroad...

Welcome to the “Sunday Morning Cowboy” video show! Lots of new exciting material.

There was low visibility all morning until about 11:30 PDT. WX turned fabulous and I went out looking for a new LZ. Join me, climb onboard and let’s ride!

Welcome to Episode (2) 2020.08.07 “The Lonely Cowboy”.

Summary: Mr. Pilot Kool decides to check out some backcountry sand dunes. Surprisingly, there is still real backcountry left in the West. No roads, just fantastic scenery. Come along and see what Mr. Kool uncovers...

Re: Sunday Morning Cowboy Show, let’s ride a windy beach...

Wind gusts on the Oregon coast reached 41 MPH today. Most likely even stronger over the ocean. On the beach in Dune City (Florence) there was blowing HEAVY fog. I had never seen fog imbedded in strong winds before like this (@ sea level). Visibility was about a 1/4 mile. CRAZY weather for summertime.

Not a good time to fly a light helicopter. Decided to ride an ATV in the sand dunes which was fun.

Here’s an older video of the dunes:

It was windy today too. Thought maybe to better look for that ultimate LZ via ground reconnaissance. Having the benefits of GND RECON is a plus. Join up with me for some ground “glam” recon and good old FUN.

Yee Hahhh!

Re: Sunday Morning Cowboy Show- ground “glam” recon & fun!

42F @ MSL this morning, with a pretty strong temperature inversion. DA at 165’ MSL was minus 350’. Calm wind.

Now let’s get down to business. Signup and ride along...

It’s the Sunday Morning Cowboy Show- “2020.08.13.SMCS Alone on a Mountain LZ” with Mr. Pilot Eddie Kool...

Re: 2020.08.13.SMCS Alone on a Mountain LZ

When the Pacific High Pressure Weather System gradient is over the coast of Oregon, it’s best to depart early and arrive before 12:00 PDT.

The R44 is loaded and ready to depart to Powers on a solo camping trip. Mary doesn’t want to deal with the Hawaii Quarantine issues so, she’ll spend her summer vacation in the islands. Anyway, I’m definitely socially distant.

Re: 2020.08.18 05:00PDT Departure Powers,OR

The flight down to Powers was partially flown at night in predawn, beautiful to see the sunrise from the cockpit of the tiny ship. Clear as can be, could see Mount Bachelor in the Cascades.

Thank you checking the thread! Powers, Oregon is really quiet and the people friendly. I recommend bringing a good awning and personal sun protection. It was 101F in the shade. The river is low with little flow. NWS issued a fire watch because of extremely strong dry wind forecasted.

I departed early today avoiding the strong trade winds on the coast. @ 2000’ MSL temperature was 86F! Very strong inversion. Ride back north was super calm.

Below is a brief video summary. Departed predawn yesterday and arrived back in KONP @ 09:00 PDT today:

Re: 2020.08.15 07:00 PST: Powers to Newport, Oregon

It takes work to be a Sunday Morning Cowboy. Preparing Saturday is good idea, that way you can get up early and ride the sky...

Today’s adventure was pretty much status quo. Saw a gigantic dead whale on the beach in Lincoln City. The vultures and seagulls were totally stoked.

2020-08-26 Shark Patrol w/ Capt. Kool

Flew to stay current in the beautiful calm weather on Wednesday morning. The strong trade winds started about 11:00 PDT and it’s not recommended to fly during that time. Just a note to PNW aviators, watch out for wind shears during the pacific high pressure above the shorelines. It could be calm on the surface in the morning and concurrently blowing 25 knots @ 1500 AGL/MSL.

Alright, back to business:
