207 down @ Monument Valley

Just heard from a friend that Grand Canyon Airlines lost a 207 at Gouldings yesterday afternoon. Pilot is in critical condition. The passengers appear to be OK.

Hopefully everyone makes a full recovery. And hopefully we don't loose the ability to fly into Monument Valley.

We were excited to heli in Silverton — until we saw the bird. Looking like something your stoner uncle built in the garage out of four Meccano sets, a fish tank, and an AMC Pacer, this helicopter seats a pilot plus two only, making it a tricky vehicle, logistics-wise, when your group has 8 people in it. There can be some interesting wind shear near that runway on breezy days. BTDT

Update on the piloto. Happy endings are infrequent these days but here's one.

Glad to read of the pilot's recovery and his positive attitude. Sometimes the body heals much better than the sense of self does. Thanks for the update!
