24 Hour adventure...

The last 24 hours has been a ball... My Father-in-law bought a pretty little RV-7a located down in Phoenix. He and my mother in law went down to pick it up and Thursday and they were supposed to fly it home. He called me Thursday night and said he had come down with a bad case of the stomach flu. My Mother-in-law was running low on medication so they asked me if I would come down from Denver (they live in Denver, as well) and help them.

Duh, Cross-country in a new bird, I'm all in for that.

So, yesterday I flew commercial down to PHX, met them at the hotel, got them commercial flights out and this morning flew the RV 700 miles back to KFTG (the southern route).

I don't have a ton of time in RV's and left with a few opinions about the bird. Stick forces are light and the airplane is incredibly responsive and it's faster than it's shadow. The one thing I did notice is that it was incredibly sensitive to turbulance because it's so light. Just about the time I would get it trimmed up and flying right, the bumps would start and I'd have to do it all over again. The first half of the flight was relatively smooth and the second half was about as rough as any x-country I've done. Both my Maule and the Bo seem to handle turbulence much better.

Anyway, it was a fun 24 hours and I'm happy everyone is home and now I'll have a new toy to mess around with.

As a -7 builder, it's nice to read a pirep from someone that hasn't drunk the kool-aid before :-) My project has been stagnant for 3 years now. Just built some new work benches, maybe I'll be able to smash some more rivets this summer!
