2790 EDO Amphib 12v Powerpack/ vs 24v conversion

Hey float folks-
Just drove down the AL-Can, and on the way bought a very mint set of 2790's for my 185 project. Super clean, with literally everything at a price I couldn't refuse. They came off a late 180 with no time, no rash, no salt etc. I did however after getting everything home discover it has a 24v hyd powerpack (new yellow tag Kelly Aerospace dang it) My 61 was originally a 12v airplane and had planned on keeping it such. I am however completely rebuilding the plane and could convert the whole machine to 24v since it is getting literally everything new.
Thoughts from the gallery.

It was an all day job getting them apart and figuring how to strap them down on the car trailer safely... glad to hear you got them home...

Well we drove 16 hours after that Brain! Pretty full day, they rode perfectly. We did get stuck behind a chopped 747 (Burning Man plane?) on a two lane in BFE CA for awhile. LOL
Thanks for the help-
Best to Dan.

Check the limitation to gross weight on those floats.

They'll make you learn to fly floats.....especially on takeoff.

Re: 2790 EDO Amphib 12v Powerpack/ vs 24v conversion

Thx. They are reasonably quick in the air, a little long for maneuvering on the water, but a good compromise.
I'm not "working" them and it's a LyCon built IO550 powered lightweight 1961 C185 application.
All amphibs basically suck performance wise, but they sure are handy if you aren't based at Hood or PJNU....

Re: 2790 EDO Amphib 12v Powerpack/ vs 24v conversion

As I said, those floats will teach you things about flying floats. They are underfloated on a 185, any 185. Easy to bury a float turning in wind, and this looooong tails are really easy to drag.

Also, all the compartments forward of the step are connected due to actuator cables from main gear linkage to nose gear. So be really paranoid about any leaks in forward compartments.

But, as you say, if you can’t run straight floats......

Keep them light, learn how to get them to launch, and have fun.

Thanks for the additional info- I flew 2705's on a 550 180 and had given instruction in these on other 185's. I appreciate your note.
I was underwhelmed with amphibs in general after flying only straights , so not expecting much... except landing on both land and sea and going fishing.
