Slight hijack here, but this talk about wine has gotten me thinking...can anybody think of a winery with a grass strip on it/nearby? Or at least a field where they would mind a pair of 29"ers setting down?

I'm thinking, fly-in, have a few glasses of vino, spend the night at a B&B and off the next day.

I can go to the store and pick up some Ripple if you land at my place.

for the hijack,
Its not wine but beer. Land on the field next to the anderson valley brewing company. Drink, make friends and camp out behind the brewery. If you are less adventurous land at boonville airport about a 1 mile walk away and stay at a B&B in between your plane and the brewery. I heard somewhere it was easier to fly your keg out of the pasture next door to the brewery than it was to try to haul it back to the airport. Just heard.

Well the first day went off without a hitch. Flew up just east of the bay area and got ahold of approach to get current on my ATC First stop was the Angwin airport where I met John (JLB on here), fueled up and bs'd for a bit, then departed for Lampson field by Lakeport. Nothing going on there, but at least good views of the lake on approach.

then a little zig-zag and landed at Coverdale, visited with a couple old timers building an LSA at the Quality Sport Planes shop. Final stop was Ukiah. Ran into an old flight instructor of mine, he was just passing through on a job with PG&E checking power lines after the big winds here in CA. Short walk to town, dinner and drinks at a place called Branches, a nice dinner and the "talent" was impressive

AvidFlyer: I passed a DC-10 and a C-5 going by Napa at 4,500, were you in one of those??

JLB: nice meeting you, have fun in your Maule !! And FYI, no more restaurant at Lampson...
