3U2 Johnson Creek Open Dates

Hello

Sorry if this is well know info but I searched and cannot find a clear answer. I have the latest 3U2 procedures from https://itd.idaho.gov/aero/ and have read through it several times (flown the pattern in FSX a million times as well). I cannot find a schedule for when the strip is occupied by the caretakers. The best I could find was it was occupied "during summer months" which is June 20 - September 22. Is there actually a fixed schedule posted somewhere?

Also, with all this extra time thanks to COVID I was thinking of flying in there next Friday 5/22. If the caretakers aren't there are you still allowed to camp there?

Thanks for the help. I tried calling the numbers in the procedure and get nothing. Also tried calling McCall airport for some guidance but couldn't get through.

I camped there once and greeted the host. Call to see if there is a NOTAM. If it does not say it is closed, it is open

Re: 3U2 Johnson Creek Open Dates

Thanks all. I will head on up next Friday weather permitting. I'll give a report too after I get back home in AZ, probably Monday 5/25. Been wanting to fly into 3U2 for about 5 years now. Been doing high elevation dirt strips in AZ the past couple weeks to get ready, some more flying scheduled for tomorrow :)

There are two guys from KDVT there now, one in a Baron, and one in a C182, the Baron will probably be there until Memorial Day. Go irritate the crap out of them for me! :D

Mark is there in his 185 and Billy in the Baron. They like to get there early to welcome the caretaker. Last year when they were there it rained most of the time. Somehow they enjoyed it. Well that was their story

Just don't head to West Yellowstone, the air port is not open until June 1. I was halfway there yesterday, before remembering that little detail. Not that I wouldn't land there regardless ( the winter tire test crews that use it in the winter are outa there), but they have a fairly serious security gate that probably isn't operational. I could, and have in the past ( to get to my plane, so sue me) but not while hauling my 55 pound ebike behind me. No problem, I went elsewhere. You can go into JC year round, I need to get in there on the skis some winter, just because I can.

Keeping an eye on the weather. Friday looks to be a little wet for my liking.

Friends landed West Yellowstone last weekend and said it was open.

West Yellowstone has been open since May 8, SkyWest has been flying there since then although only one flight a day right now instead of the scheduled two.

Oops, my bad. Damn smart phone steered me wrong. I just googled it, and that's what seemed to come up. Then again, when I diverted, about 65 miles away, it looked like possible fog there, or at least very low lying crowds. Crystal clear where I ended up.

Re: 3U2 Johnson Creek Open Dates

Sorry, No PIREP. Didn't make it into JC this weekend. Flew from KFFZ to Kanab Friday morning. Monitoring weather and it was deteriorating on our route to KELY KTWF 3U2. So the wife and I decided to stay in Kanab. Rented a jeep and went through Zion, did some 4x4'ing. Next day drove to Bryce Canyon. Third day flew to Canyon lands Airport north of Moab and spent the day there. The Arches National park was closed (ridiculous) but pretty cool place.

All in all, Kanab was a pretty cool hub to explore southern Utah.

JC is still on the list for the summer.
