47.9 hrs in 7 days!

I just got back from an Iraq run in the C-5. 3 states, 4 countries (including 2 legs into Iraq), and 47.9 hrs in 7 days! I'm beat!! It was a good trip though despite an emergency descent and divert back to the East Coast from halfway across the Atlantic, a two night stay in a tent in Iraq after we blew a hydro line, and a precautionary engine shutdown :D Gotta Love it. Here's a shot of just one of the many things we can carry. This one happens to be an H-60 Blackhawk.

Looks like a 1st of the 7th or 1st of the 9th Air Cav ship.

If we could borrow the C-5 for Johnson Creek we could bring hot tubs, pool tables, catering service and party girls.

Fly It Like You Mean It!

You could almost land the C-5 in JC if you could get it down in the canyon. The other day we were lightweight and when I did the landing data I was shocked to see our approach speed of 112 knots with a landing distance of only 2200 ft. With 24 sets of brakes, speedbrakes 4 feet tall, and 100,000 lbs of reverse thrust the C-5 will stop on a dime when it's lightweight.. By lightweight I mean less than 500,000 lbs..haha. That pig weights 320K empty.

Speedbump it was 8 legs total. Should have only been 7 but right after our Air Refueling and coast out on our way to Europe we got an indication that a pressure door was open meaning the crew entry door, the visor on the nose, or the Forward or Aft ramp was loose which requires us to depressurize so we don't have a rapid decompression if the door decides to let go. Since we had passengers we also had to do an emergency decent from FL310 to 12,000. We weighed our options and diverted to the east coast C-5 base in Delaware. Turns out it was a bad switch that caused the indication but it was exciting there for a little bit!
