4th Annual Red Hills Fly-In - Memorial Day Weekend

I can't believe it's been another year! The 4th Annual Red Hills Fly-In is just around the corner! This years agenda is just in from the planning committee:

Sat. morning fly-out to Lodi for breakfast, then some flying around some local landing areas, early afternoon-water balloon bombing contest and spot landing contest. Sat evening-potluck dinner. Sunday morn hosted breakfast and flyouts and homeward bound.

First things first: Liability. Jack will not permit you to land without having first signed the liability waiver. NOTE: The form only needs to be filled out once. If you've filled it out, you're good to go! It can be found here: https://goo.gl/JhVRik

You may sign it digitally or print it out and bring it with you.

Rich Finkle also created an outstanding informational video on flying into the Red Hills strip. I highly encourage anyone flying into Red Hills to watch it. It's also linked on the liability waiver.

We can arrive as early as Friday. Most folks will be arriving on Saturday. Plan to bring some potluck food for Saturday night. Bring your own meat and something else to share with everyone.

Myrna will be cooking Sunday breakfast.

Hope to see you there!

Pretty sure I need to make this one. I've flown over this strip like five times in the past few months.

Rob,
You ought to see if you can make the Saturday of Easter weekend. They have a huge family picnic and then games and an Easter egg hunt for the kids. Different levels for all ages. It's a blast.

Do they post these events somewhere else? If we weren't already going to be camping in Pine Grove with the trailer I'd fly in in a heartbeat

Re: 4th Annual Red Hills Fly-In - Memorial Day Weekend

Living in exile in the PNW, a 'native' of Sonora, I look forward to the pictures and the stories. Perhaps someday the Maule and I will be based again at O22 and be able to join in.

Have a great time, please post plenty of pics!

Re: 4th Annual Red Hills Fly-In - Memorial Day Weekend

We had a blast last year meeting new people at Red Hills.
If all goes well we will be there again this year.
I have a new plane to show off anyway!!

Re: 4th Annual Red Hills Fly-In - Memorial Day Weekend

Less than 10 weeks to fly-in and 5 weeks to the Easter Pot-Luck/Easter egg hunt at Red Hills.

In addition to the Annual Red Hills Fly-In, the Moyles put on an Easter Pot-Luck and Easter egg hunt.

Saturday before Easter Sunday (April 15, 2017) there is a Easter Pot-Luck and Egg Hunt at the Red Hills air strip. Great time was had at the last three years events. People with kids bring one dozen Easter Eggs and a grab bag kids gift (this insures all kids receive a gift). Also bring a potluck item. This is both a fly-in and drive-in event for the day. The Moyles have invited their family, friends and pilots to this event. Several of us pilots have attended the Easter event for the last three years. It is also a great time with a diversified group of good people. The kids have had a great time also with games, egg hunt and playing with good group of other kids.

Looking forward to seeing many of the past attendees to both events as well as some new ones.

What time do people usually start showing up?

Re: 4th Annual Red Hills Fly-In - Memorial Day Weekend

For the Saturday Easter Potluck people start arriving about 9:30-10:00.

For the Memorial Day Fly-In a couple of us show up early afternoon on Friday. After spending the night we will fly out to Lodi Sat. morning, then back to Red Hill about 10:00-11:00am. People usually start coming in on Saturday about 8:00-8:30am or meet at Lodi about 9:00am.

Unfortunately, a medical problem came up with me and a logistics problem came up with the grandkids. My family and I will not be able to make it this year to the Saturday Easter Potluck. But, Still going to and looking forward to the Memorial Day Fly-In.

Re: 4th Annual Red Hills Fly-In - Memorial Day Weekend

Well, bummer we didn't have any airplanes show up for Easter. It was still a real nice gathering. I showed up late myself, had to go pick up my son so he could go too.

Jack and his son Lee have been busy boys this past year. Jack and Lee have completely regarded the approach end of the runway and have put a culvert in. The creek is now buried. I kind of have mixed feelings about this but it will definitely make the runway safer. Especially for those who want to taxi to the top of the hill for take off.

Still hoping to see a bunch turn out for Memorial Day!

Here are a couple pictures of the new runway...

Re: 4th Annual Red Hills Fly-In - Memorial Day Weekend

Next week is the fly-in. I will be heading into the Red Hills airstrip on Friday and flying out to Lodi for breakfast on Saturday. I plan to be at Lodi about 9:00am. Is there anyone else that plans to meet for breakfast at Lodi Saturday morning?

I will be driving in again with my family on Saturday. If anyone needs anything brought in such as coolers, ice, bbq, chairs, etc let me know.

Re: 4th Annual Red Hills Fly-In - Memorial Day Weekend

I just watched the safety video and signed his waiver. (Even though I think a friendly lawyer on this site should help him re-write it.)

Tentative plan is to join y'all after breakfast back at the ranch. When does the fun flying stuff happen? I seem to recall a cool sorta wide slot canyon you fly around there.
