4XA4 - 2015 Labor Day Fly-In / STOL competition

Apache Pass (4XA4) Texas is hosting a fly-in over Labor Day Weekend, Sept 5 & 6, 2015.

The Texas STOL Roundup Team has been asked to put on a STOL competition. We will conduct our Obstacle STOL™ and Traditional STOL™ event, plus a Flour Bombing Event.

The STOL Competition will take place Saturday afternoon/evening. Flour bombing Sunday morning. Rules and Aircraft classing will be identical to the Texas STOL Roundup.

The Air Boss and I flew to Apache Pass yesterday evening. It's a great facility offering RV hookup sites, Camping sites, onsite Bar & Grill with excellent food (killer ribeye), restrooms, showers, and other amenities. They are right next to the San Gabriel River.

This should be a great fly-in, hope to see you there.

Is there a poster flyer with any further details? Trying to see if anything is going on Sunday or if I should plan on leaving Saturday.

Thanks

Saturday afternoon is the STOL competition. Sunday morning after breakfast is the Flour Bombing. Here is a scan of a postcard I got in the mail yesterday. See you there.

On the Obstacle STOL, is the distant measured from how far you land from the obstacle, provided you clear it? Or is there a touchdown line, and if so, how far is it away from the obstacle?

Regarding the Apache Pass fly-in, you can camp under the wings of your plane, or in an onsite camp ground, or bring your motorhome (there are hookups), or stay at a hotel in town and get shuttled back and forth. The local EAA chapter is doing breakfast each morning, and there is a bar/grill, plus a restaurant, also on site. And there are showers. No Avgas. Closest fuel is in Rockdale, 10 miles.

Heading out tomorrow - should be there early to mid afternoon. Hope to meet some of you and glean some wisdom. I'll be in a camo Aggies hat with probably some sort of fishing shirt on.
