5/15/2015 - FYI no working 100LL in Wells, NV

Just a heads up for anyone flying through the Nevada desert... fuel pump in Wells (LWL) is broken but not placarded or NOTAM'd. Was flying through that area yesterday and met another guy trying to fuel there as well. Credit card machine works but pump will not sustain pressure. He said he would let the city know.

Might be time to replace that pump, looks like it has had a long hard life.

Pretty sure Wells has buried tanks with submersible pumps. Could be wrong. You are probably referring to the dispensers that are beat up.

I have been a contractor an many gas stations. Everybody calls the dispenser a pump. That is because a half century ago (or more) the dispensers had a belt driven pump in them to suck the fuel out of the buried tank. Now there is a submersible pump in the tank and the fuel is pumped to the dispenser.

If all else fails and you're out of options, interstate 80 is a good option. They'll even give you enough fuel to get to Elko or Wendover. Right Tim?

Exactly Pat.

I landed at Wells once and the fuel system had the same symptoms as Scott described. The fuel level in tanks was so low that after the first half gallon it sucked air.

If all else fails, I know of a good alternate between Elko and wells at my ranch strip.

Pm me for details or a phone number.

It's about 3/4 mile from our HQ.

FYI got fuel there a few weeks ago and the pump was intermittently slow. Filled up without much delay...

Had a similar experience in Delta, UT last fall and it appears that the cause is the tanks being nearly empty, probably not the pump itself.

One of my favorite places to stop between SEA-DVT. Always the cheapest fuel
and fast in and out.

Hopefully it will be resolved, whatever the cause. It was a good fuel stop going to and coming from HSF last fall.

Tell me more about Spencer Hot Springs. I've got a book on all the NV hot springs and want to start visiting. How's the landing area? Looks like a narrow dirt road. Length available?

We had ours torn apart last year, replaced the filters and installed a new pump but it turned out to be a little known sediment screen going into the dispenser.
