5/22/2010 - Raleigh East Fly-In - Raleigh NC (9NC0)

I know this is late notice, but I'd like to extend an invitation to all BCP'ers to join us at Raleigh East airport this weekend for our annual informal fly-in.

The event "officially" kicks off at 1pm Saturday, when we'll start hopping rides for anyone interested. (Some of my greatest flying joys come from introducing others to flight). Later we'll have real NC barbecue, a band, and our favorite Carolina Pale Ale on draft. The late night session includes team water combat with the airport fire truck and the obligatory campfire bull session.

Pilots are welcome to arrive any time (we'll also provide lunch Saturday), even as early as the day before. I can guarantee any pilot who mentions Z's name a prime patch of Piedmont red clay upon which to pitch your tent or bivvy sack.

-or feel free to post questions here or PM me.

Come join us!!

...quick right to the jaw? A lit cigarette butt in the eye? ;) Gotta be careful mentioning my name in certain parts!

Hope you guys have a good time with good weather. My little brother just moved to Winston-Salem, and drove out there all the way from Oregon. He said they can keep everything in between...Oregon and North Carolina are the prettiest.

Thanks Z! RIght now the forecast is a bit iffy, but bad weather has never kept anyone who made it here from having a great time.

Send your bro our way this weekend and I promise we'll keep him entertained. I'm hoping to have a few Stinsons inbound from the Winston area...

So how was the turnout Bill? Did anyone cash in on Zane's good name?

Andy, nobody 'fessed up to knowing Z, or being a BCP'er, but we had a great turnout- easily several hundred people.

We had only a few fly-ins, including the beautiful Stearman from Lake Ridge, Dave's Stinson all the way from CT, and several nosedraggers. There were seven aircraft hopping rides right up until the bolts of lightning began, and we managed to give rides to over 200 people!

We also finished off several hundred pounds of pork, a few cases of chickens, and a few kegs of beer.

My friend Curtis just finished the paperwork for his purchase of a '46 Champ, and the pre-fly-in dawn patrol consisted of us honing our wheel landings at about 40mph.

It was GREAT fun, but next year I want to be a little better at getting folks to fly in (and maybe help us hop rides). We were competing locally with the MCAS Cherry Point airshow and Suffolk's festival of flight, which probably kept a few folks away. It's the time of year when that's tough to avoid, but I know I can at least do a better job of getting the word to fellow pilots.

Maybe next year we'll see your Stearman?
