6/15/2007 - BCP 2nd Annual Summer Fly-in -Johnson Creek, ID

The Event
2nd Annual BackcountryPilot.Org Summer Fly-In

The Location
Johnson Creek, Idaho (3U2)

The Date
June 15-17, 2007

The Players
You, me, whoever wants to show and can do the secret handshake

Ok, we've locked down the date. It sounds like MauleManiac was able to scribble our names onto the caretakers' roster for the group campsite. All we need now is some nice clear weather.

Here's a report from last year.

If you haven't flown into that area of Idaho before, it can be intimidating to consider. This will be my first year going in as PIC, so it's a topic I have been thinking about recently. http://www.backcountrypilot.org/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=466Here's a good thread[/url] with some info about that very topic. If you have anything to add, put it in that thread. Whatever happened to Bonth anyway?

I will have a fresh load of T-shirts with me if everything goes as planned.

So...let's discuss this. Just to summarize, this is a get together of friends who want to sit around and BS in an environment we love. Outside of that, you're on your own. There won't be a pancake breakfast or any food provided, although we will probably do a group dinner on saturday evening. I'm going to bring my fly rod, although I couldn't tell you what the fishing in June is like in the area, or if it's even allowed.

I am super stoked about it. All I need to do now is fly a lot and get the old bird finely tuned. I'm looking forward to seeing you there!

Time flys

The airport cam at Johnson Creek is showing some activity, but all I see at McCall is piles of snow! Time flys and summer is a'comin. the Sun will soon do it's thing and Idaho is beautiful in June.
As last year, I'll bring some finger food and a few bottles of adult beverage to share around the campfire. I am really looking forward to seeing everyone and a chance to chat in person.

It's definitely allowed, the season opens Memorial Day. It looks like we'll have an early and slow runoff this year, so there's a good chance that the creek will be reasonably clear by then. If you go North from the strip there is some slower water, the creek adjacent to the Rwy is kind of fast. An assortment of buggers and size 14-16 Adams and Royal Wolffs and some other stimulators is all you'll probably need at that time of year.

You can get a 5 day license in McCall, I don't know about Yelllowpine, but probably there too. Hope to meet you all.

It's the act of 1 bottle of beer passing from your hand to mine. ;)
Nah... j/k. There's no handshake.

Ill try to bring an ample supply of Shiner Bock, the best beer in Texas, and a more than suitable substance for the purposes of a secret handshake. 8)

Looks like 17 hours and that is with air-to-air refueling. 8)

And then there is this secret handshake that involves beer and smelly cigars. You guys sure know how to have fun.

Hey there everyone on the site:
HELP John get some wings back! This guy is too big to come with me in my anemic C - 172!
PM him & let him know what's on the bulletin board at the airports you frequent.
We want him there!
Many thanks, Berk

Is anyone going from the Denver area or through here? We could coordinate the trip out.

pulled in two directions

That weekend in June is my annual Lake Powel trip. Been doing it for a lot of years. Meet old friends from the early 60's and spend a few days on a housboat. Always a good time. Last year I landed at several Utah spots that were truly fantastic.

This year I may miss Powel and do Johnson Creek. I missed last year but if Zane is coming in his Chicken Hawk, that is hard to resist.

How many folks are planning on showing up this year.

Hey Jr CubBuilder

No what I will do is to offer to cook you breakfast. I always cook crepes on Saturday morning of any fly in that I go to. They are pretty good.

Skystrider - I be coming from the Kansas City area, if you want to hook up I've been into Johnson Creek a couple of times.

Hawker: If you want I will catch up with ya and we can go together. I will be flying a C180H. Whatever works for whoever.

Sounds like fun, but if all is going right for me I'll be in a moving van somewhere between Wichita and the "O.C." So, instead of burning a couple hundred bucks of avgas, the wife and I will be burning over a thousand bucks in diesel. Enjoy!

Since my collarbone healed up so nicely I will come back and try fly fishing instead of mountainbike riding this year. I'll see you guys there.

I plan on getting there before noon on Friday and spending two nights.

There is a bucher shop in Grants Pass, OR that makes up the best hot links. Uses real pork gut for the casing so it has that oh so good pop when you bite into them. I could go up there and pick up some. Could cook em up, slice em up, and stick toothpics in them for finger food.

Hi guys, I’ll be there by 10 AM Friday and leave Sunday. I’ll bring chips, dip, jerky, whiskey and some diet Pepsi. Now all I need to do is hook up with Bob White for a practice flight to JC. Cheers…Rob
