Prospect SAR fly-in

Hey,

Talked with the main cook at noon. He was down in the Rogue Valley getting supplies for this shin dig. Plans of feeding 230 people. Rib eye steaks, chicken for the main dish. There is soft drinks supplied. BYO if your drinking anything else.

Prospect (64S) is a good 4000 foot paved strip. 8)

Check TFRs, I may have to file to get out of BNO because of smoke. Vis about 5 now, but was 1 1/4 a couple of days ago. 77,000 acres burnt/burning so far. Come on rain!

Well hope to see some of the BCP folks there. :D

Fly safe, Bub

Bringing it to the top again

Hey all,

Just a reminder of this fly in....again. :D

It's a good one. If I remember right 74 or 75 planes is their record.

So if you have a free weekend please give it some thought. Lon is a master when it comes to Rib Eyes and Chicken.

One last check in!

Well figure I would post one last time about the SAR fly-in dinner and breakfast. Weather is looking favorable for the Cascades and PNW this weekend. 8)

Will have to hoist one to the weather gods.

I'm personally hoping to see some BCP folks there. I'm going to try and get out of work early Friday afternoon  and get over to 64S by 6:30 pm, or soon there after.

May have to make a flight to GP to find Zane :P

Everyone fly safe, God Bless, See ya, Bub

Figures

Well made it to 64S for the Fly in Firday evening. Head wind all the way. Man Ruff with gusty winds near BNO to Silver Lake area. The just steady head wind from there on. 103 to 113 knots in a 182. UG!

Well put in a cloths line base for my mom already. Gunna eat Breakfast and go look for Zane

Can already imagine the steak cooking. :P

Will post a report later. Bub

Results!

Well the SAR crew served about 125 folks. Only 37 Planes in, weather and gas most likely caused the low turn out.

Got to meet Marc "Beagle" and had a good bs session.

Flew from 64S to Medford Saturday morning for fuel. $3.849 for 100LL cheapest around that I could find. Self Serve on taxi way A-6.

Then flew over to Grants Pass to find Zane. No luck there but got some gusty 20 know direct crosswind. If you land on 12 watch for the wind-no wind condition caused by the hangers. Made an interesting landing

Anyway Zane and his Lady made it to the fly-in Sunday morning with the 170. 8) We had a short chat before the Misses and I headed back home.

Zane I would post the picture in this thread, but being techno challenged I can't figure it out. So I'll leave it up to you to retrieve and embed somewhere. Anyway it was good to meet you. Anyone wanting to take a look check the gallery.

There were a few 180/185s, Super Cubs, Cub, a number of Cessna products, from 150s to 210s and about everything in between, and some experimentals.

One Kitfox IV that caught my eye. I would estimate that the take off roll was less than 50 feet with no wind. 8) Looked like a load of fun.

See ya, Bub

In typical "me" fashion I didn't roll out of bed until 6:30am, took a few tries to rouse Erin, and when we finally made it to the airport, the cardlock system wasn't working so I couldn't fuel up. I only had a few gallons in each wing, in the "NO TAKE OFF" zone of the classic 170 gauges, so hmmm...what to do?

Luckily I had a 5 gallon can of recently drained 100LL in the hangar from my dipstick calibration project, so I dumped that in and made it to Prospect. I stopped at Medford for that cheap fuel Bub was talking about, but I screwed up and ended up at Medford Air for the $4.49 red carpet treatment. Oh well, it was $4.65 at Grants Pass so I saved $.16/gal. Woo hoo!

Good to meet you Bub, thanks for the use of the pickup! I had fun drivin it around talkin on the CB.... ;) Too bad we couldn't visit longer but it's my fault for being late. Thanks for waiting around anyway.

Zane made it just as I got in the plane and fastened the seatbelt. Wife and I got out and BS'd about 10 minutes or so. Zane mentioned something about trying to set up another fly-in down that way somewhere. 8)

Flight back to BNO was a yawner. Pretty steady 137 knots over the ground. Back home in 1 hour 17 minutes.

There was a show quality Howard sitting on the ramp at BNO when we got here. :D I'll post a couple pictures when I get time. Not sure how good a bush plane a Howard would be, but this one was nice.

Mucky flats? Is that out on the crow foot? Name rings a bell, but I can't remember where it is. A senior moment.

Zane, yep was good to see you there, glad the pickup worked out. Get to talkin on the CB and you'll be a truck driver in no time. Did you go down to the Trophy room for a snack? It's been a few years since I was in there, but have drank my share of beer there in my younger days.

Medford Air is a good place and they do treat you right. I took my instrument written there. I believe the Jet Center has the self serve card lock on A-6.
