7/4/2008 - Minam River Fly-in - NE Oregon - (7OR0)

The 3rd Annual Minam Lodge/Red's Horse Ranch Fly-in has been set to happen on July 4-6 (Fri-Sat). Shawn & Shelly Steen said they have lots of accommodations available including; tent camping, hot showers, cabins, tepees and of course great meals. Not to mention the beautiful surroundings of the Eagle Cap Wilderness Area. Horses are also available at the Lodge. There are lots of hiking trails and the Minam R. should be fishable at this time.

You can fuel up and buy your fishing license at LaGrande (LGD), Enterprise (8S4), Baker City (BKE) or Joseph (4S3), only 20-minutes from Minam Lodge.

The Minam River Lodge strip (7OR0) is on the Seattle sectional and is a grass/gravel strip that is 2000' long and at an elevation of 3600'. Everyone is on their own to make food and lodging accommodations with Shawn & Shelly or bring your own food and tent camp near your plane.

Here are Shawn & Shelly's contact info for the Minam River Lodge:

I flew into the Minam lodge this morning 6-24-08 and they have had a lot of rain recently. The Minam strip was good but, I hopped the fence to the Reds Horse strip and it isn't very good. Long grass, mud in the middle of the runway and I was glad to get out of there. Bob

I was just in to Minam on Thursday and had a great breakfast with a friend of mine who had never been in the canyon...He had a blast...Shawn and the USFS have cut allot of those trees down that are (where) on the end of the runway for an up river approach that have been inching up into the airspace the last 10-years....it's much better..... :) Be sure to thank Shawn for his persistance in getting the USFS to address this and get it done...

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

For those of you who may be going into Minam River Lodge or Red's Horse Ranch this season, the RAWS site at Minam Logde is up and running....Minam River Lodge RAWS Site

This remote weather into site is located on the Minam Lodge airstrip
