Hey Guys,
72 years ago today was the start of the "Doolittle Raid"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doolittle_RaidI am a big fan of Jimmy Doolittle and he was such a forward thinker in aviation from seeing their potential in battle, to pioneering flying IFR to his air racing exploits. The remembrance of the date popped in my mind today so I figured I would post here and get others thinking of Him and all he did. He was a great champion for aviation and i am sure we are better for having him be there before us...

16 survivors of the operation alive as of August 2013. God bless those men and what they risked going on that mission. I follow their goblet ceremony each year, and always thought the idea of the "final toast" for the last 2 surviving members is a noble tribute.

They were "The Greatest Generation." We've gotten a little sloppy since then. Any time they are shooting at you, it is a real war. The level of sacrifice has been less, however.

I've got to respectfully disagree with you, Contact. The magnitude of the sacrifice has been less maybe, but the level of the sacrifice is at the same level for all wars.
We're probably saying the same thing but in different words though!

Yes, I think so. I tend to think in historical rather than personal terms.
