A Distraction

For those who want to discuss and learn from some destruction. Here's a nasty scenario that most of us could get into if our brain nods off for a few seconds. Talk about your short Field landing! Wow! I successfully imbedded this all by myself.

Re: A Distraction

That was short... #-o

Looks like he was low and slow with no power and did not expect the sink. The bottom fell out on him.

That was a good learning lesson for him I bet. Also betting he carries a bit more power now on his landings. He had zero power on this one. Listen to the engine rev as he realizes its to late.

This is a very good reason to have a little more power-on (and maintain an air speed to landing) durring approach or learn to slip and nail your spot. He was coasting in until he thought oh #-o ...Power was all the way off.

Lucky ....

Re: A Distraction

Any idea what was flying out of or away from the aircraft? To me it looked like a person ejecting out of the plane

Re: A Distraction

It was the landing gear...

Not to be cliche, but he ran out of altitude, airspeed and ideas all at the same time!!

I agree with AkT on his assessment, either airspeed, power, or altitude would have been his "out" in this situation

Re: A Distraction

It looks like one of those 70-80 % RC planes the way it crashes.

Re: A Distraction

I really don't want to stir up the crap from the other mishap related threads, but if this was as straightforward as the clip shows, and not a mechanical issue with power... A prime example of HUA and someone oblivious to what their airplane is trying to tell them. And that's really hard to do in a Cub.

Humor may not make the world go around, but it certainly cheers up the process... :)
With clothing, the opposite of NOMEX is polypro (polypropylene cloth and fleece).
