No, I think a synonym for anus is definitely appropriate. :)

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

"The comment above reminds me of what I've been doing for the last couple of years. While driving my big rig up and down and all across the U.S."

You must get driven nuts by people passing on the right... I absolutely hate that stuff... I'm usually on a tour bus, having to hear the driver honk every time someone comes up on the right... And whenever I'm driving (van and trailer) I absolutely hate it when I have dips%^s trying to pass me. Stay out of my blind spot!!!!! Idiots. I see all the stickers saying "look out for bikers." However, bikers need to also not spend so much time hanging out in spots where nobody can see them. (along with all other drivers) I am dumbfounded that people still like to hang out in the blind spot of a large vehicle. It will cost you your life.

Our driver honks the horn and wakes us up no less than 5 times a day..... Swearing and yelling at drivers... damn him. We just want to sleep!

Re: A-Holes & Airstrips?

The other side of the a-holes & airstrips deal.... people flying uninvited into private airstrips where either 1) they are not welcome, & 2) where they almost crash, do crash, or just piss off the owner(s).
A friend of mine with a private airfield located in a little valley had a local (low-time) flight instructor come in (uninvited) with a student not long ago. Found out later that the CFI had the student doing a simulated engine-out approach, they flew a low close-in right downwind down in the valley (published pattern on Airnav is left traffic), got out of shape & overshot the runway on base and came really close to my friend's house. Then they cobbed it, went around, & went away (smart move, just a little too late). Scared the crap out of my buddy's wife & kids -- he wasn't home at the time so had to take his wife's word about just how close they came, but it was definitely too close for comfort. Airnav sez "prior permission required" for that airstrip-- this CFI not only wasn't invited but in fact didn't even know my buddy. As a result, it is now posted at the local FBO's that visitors are not welcome to land, do fly-by's or go-arounds, or anything else at this airstrip.
I was telling another buddy about it & he took exception to the owner's attitude. I had to remind him that it is a *private* airport, subject to the owner's conditions. And that if he didn't like it, he should go talk to the CFI who screwed it up for averybody else.
I've talked to other pilots with the same attitude, "it's an airport so I can land there". I usually ask them how would they like to come home & have someone picnicking on their front lawn-- no they're not hurting anything, but I'll bet you're gonna kick them right the hell off. Same deal- private property is private property. Something to keep in mind, esp if someone is nice enough to allow you to use their private airstrip. Don't abuse the privilege & screw it up for everyone else too.

Good to remember. Another good one: nothing is fool-proof to a sufficiently determined fool.

Re: A-Holes & Airstrips?

The owner of this particular airstrip does not give permission to anyone to land on his property. He does however say with sort of a wink and a grin that there are a few of his friends that he will not call the police on if he sees them on his airstrip. Obviously he got this advice from one of his attorney friends. This private mountain ridge airstrip does not even have a wind sock that could be interpreted as an invitation to land, or an “attractive nuisance.

Looking forward to some flying in Hells Canyon and some chuckar hunting this weekend!

I used to run into the same attitude when I was a deputy sheriff in Sonoma County. City kids heading off to ranch/dairy property, tearing down fences and burning the fence posts for their beer parties. At first I'd just round 'em up, then take them home to mommy and daddy, expecting the parents to handle the situation like my folks would had I been that stupid and selfish.

But, oh no... First words out of the parent's mouths were, "Don't worry Junior, our lawyer will take care of this." And then I'd get the old worn out line about going out to arrest real criminals instead of hassling their kids. I learned that lesson real quick, and from then on just took the little shitheads off to jail.

And Eric you're right. Those same parents would be the first ones to scream for public floggings or the death penalty if some inner-city kids had started a bonfire on "their" lawn.

My 16 yr old son (high school junior) just came home last friday night in the back of a police car. Classic, he told me he was at a friends when he really snuck off and got drunk at a party, which got out of hand and the police showed up. I did something like that when I was his age, but he doesn't quite know what. I really appreciate that the police just scare them and give them a ride home.

What does he get for that (lying)? He gets a new cell phone he had to buy, with GPS tracking software in it. He loses use of the family car until the end of November, and has to buy a bus pass to get to school or ride his bike (he has to work at my wife's veterinary clinic for the money). Many kids do this kind of thing, but you still have to treat it like a big deal and its a great chance to let them know there are consequences for acting that way. - ng

Re: A-Holes & Airstrips?

....as I appoached the little country airport, located in Missouri River Bottom farm land, where we keep our airplane: I noticed a blue Dodge 4 wheel drive pickup truck stuck in a soy bean field about 100 yards from the road. Stopping to look things over I noticed that there were ruts and destroyed bean plants all over the place. Obviously "someone" had been having fun tearing up the farmer's crops. When they got stuck the fun ended.

The following day I drove by the same spot. The blue pickup was still there stuck in the mud. The windshield and driver's side window were blown out. Nearly every square inch of the body was filled with buckshot holes.

Never heard a thing about it.

Re: A-Holes & Airstrips?

A guy got his pickup stuck in a bog near L94 (Tehachapi, CA), went to a nearby construction site and "borrowed" a dump tuck to tow it out... and got that stuck. He then "borrowed" a bulldozer and got that stuck. Construction guys had to build a road with boulders and rock to get their stuff out. Took days.

"Somehow" a 5 cubic foot boulder ended up in the cab of the original stuck truck.....

No one said a thing.
