A life changing question in need of ideas from great minds!

I hope this is the right place to post this, if not, Zzz put it where you think best.

As I have posted in other threads my wife and I moved back from Delta Junction, AK in Sept of '12. We have been going up to AK every year for about 8 years in various locations Anchorage, Seward, St Mary's, Tok, Delta Junction. We finally moved up to Delta Jct in July of '11. We love everything about AK except that our kids and grandkids do not live there and cannot afford to visit. In June of '12 we brought our 14 year old grandson up to spend 6 weeks with us, and we took him all over AK by air and camper. Well in the middle of July we put him on a plane back home and we then realized that we didn't like being that far from family. So we decided to move back.

So now we are back and cannot believe how much we miss AK. So this is where I need all of the great minds on this forum, we need to figure out how to go between SD and AK and still make a living.

To help in this endeavor he is a little info on us. My wife is a Family Practice Nurse Practitioner with an Alaska license. I have been self employed most of my adult life. I started in construction specializing in finish carpentry and progressing to custom built furniture. Then later in life I received my PPL, since then my whole life has revolved around aviation. I switched careers and learned to be an avionics tech and am now working with my oldest son who is an A&P IA and owns the FBO on KLYV airport.

We want it all and hope maybe someone out there has an idea we haven't thought of (especially you Alaska guys), if it involves aviation all the better.

Clear Skies

Well... Maybe hire on with AS (Alaska Airlines) in ANC as an avionics tech for the flight passes, and have your wife work per diem wherever she wants in AK and SD. Money would be OK, and it's a fairly easy commute.

Don't know if this helps, but the Delta high school hockey team beat the Healy team 7-2 today to advance to regionals! =D>

There is a bunch of jobs in AK that are seasonal. There are several that are with government agencies. Once you get a position with, lets say Park Service, each year you are preferred on a return basis. There are a bunch that need AK residency. So you could do summer fire work in AK (just an example) and do ski slope grooming in the winter down in the lower 48.

You lived in St. Mary's! You really will do anything.

Take a look at slope jobs.. Your time off you can live anywhere you want and bounce around.

I have left AK many times, but I always come back. This time I will be here till I am too damn old to get out and fish, hunt or fly.
