A Little Spot in AOPA PILOT

Historically, it's been common to post a little dialog if we got a photo in Av-Web Picture of the Week, or a mention in one of the other aviation publications......

So, I thought I'd just let you all know that this BCP brother got a little spot in the March 2016 issue of AOPA PILOT.

As many of you know I'm pretty involved in the airport operations out at the Burning Man Event. This year Dave Hirschman and Chris Rose, from AOPA, flew in and participated in the event and wrote up a story about their experiences. It got published in the current March issue of AOPA Pilot....it's also in their on-line edition.
It's a pretty good write-up, from the perspective of a person who had never attended the event before.

I happen to have gotten caught in one of the photos that they used. Luckily my wife, who I feel sure is much more pleasant to look at than me, was standing right beside me in the photo.

If you haven't seen it yet, it's one part of a feature they called Great Getaways..... The Burning Man part starts on page 68.

Enjoy!

Nice, Dave! I imagine that sand fills everything in that plane.

"So how did u convince your wife to let u buy a second "beater" plane?" ...........

Well, at one time, I built the number of flying machines in my collection up to five, so at any point in time that there is less that five, she's happy it appears I must be cutting back.....

"I imagine that sand fills everything in that plane"

Actually, it's very fine powdery dust, not sand at all. It's an alkali lake bed, basic in PH. Same as Dead Cow and 2 Shotgun Shells.
It does get most anywhere it wants, and with the PH..... important to clean the plane up well when you get home.
In all the years that I've been there on the Black Rock, and messing around on tons of other playas all across Northern Nevada, I've not had any failure or out of the ordinary maintenance issue that I would say was due because of the playa dust.

They are fun playgrounds!

One of these days I'll get smart about this marriage thing.
Some pain on the front end makes things easier on the back side.

Wait a minute. That kinda sounds weird ^^^^
