A new Air Camping Web Site

Hi All,
I was searching the web this morning and found this new (new to me) web site.

http://www.americanaircampers.net

Its focus is on Air Camping. They have a Google map with listings of Airports that have camping facilities. But they want $50.00 to be a member. I'm not sure what you really get for your $50. Dose anyone have any experience with them and is it really worth the money?

Re: A new Air Camping Web Site

I know of a few free websites that probably give you more info. (BCP and shortfielder  )

In all honesty though, looks like a cool site and anything to promote my favorite hobby is a plus.

I checked out their booth at Osh Kosh. Good effort but I don't think there's enough value added to justify the subscription cost. As MM points out, you can get basically the same information from shortfield.com for free. I applaud the efforts of the aircamping folks but I'll be surprised if they're around for long.

I third the statements of MM and Vick. When a collaborative data source is free for use and contribution of knowledge by the community, it flourishes. A membership fee is probably the best way to limit your contributor base, which is why you will never see one here, regardless what fancy features we have planned. :)

That's not to get down on the AACA, because many people enjoy flying and camping and not necessarily backcountry-oriented flying stuff. Best of luck to them.
