A rustic afternoon jaunt around the neighborhood - video

Enjoyed a day bouncing around on our neighbors property a few days ago. I think I'm starting to dig the time lapse feature on this HD170.

Bushwheels are FUN!

The HD play-back is spectacular, the plane is awesome...and that old house looks like it has some history to it.

What software do you use to edit your video?

Very well done!

Matt,
Great pictures time lapse/however you did it of the old house! That was a pretty deluxe place in it's time I bet. My collection is up over 40, and growing, (collection of old houses with the plane parked in the front yard). Like all true collections, it was well underway before I realized I had a new hobby. #-o

Nice work! I saw a lot of old abandoned houses while I was flying yesterday and wished I could land and check them out.

Thanks guys, it's a hoot making these videos.

I'm using Magix Movie Maker Pro 17HD, but if you can spend a little more coin I think the Sony Vegas and Coral programs are a touch better. I'll have to see if I can find some more old buildings in the future, there's plenty in the area. (Just need to see if I can get access to them.)

wicked video pal... given my computer retardedness, I stick to Window Movie Maker! I want your tires! (did you change your tailwheel when you bolted on your 31''? I have a Maule Tail Wheel so I wonder if I should change it. L8ter

Matt, I really enjoyed that. You are an excellent photographer, a few of those shots around the old house are wall hanging material.

When I see an old place like that, makes me wonder who lived there, the generations of family, their dreams and stories . . . what happened? Do the surviving relatives care, or perhaps hold no value for that part of their past?

Re: A rustic afternoon jaunt around the neighborhood - video

This old house had an old barn nearby that was really cool. But it fell down a few years ago in a big blow. It had a rotted foundation and was occupied by a few cows, but the kid in me had to go "explore". I should have landed my old C-140 by it and taken a picture, but I guess one thinks this stuff will just last forever.

I looked around on Google and found out a little info (I'm sure the neighbors would know more history about it) and found some names of people in the area. This place was probably built between 1885-1905. The old farm house is in pretty good condition considering and has a solid foundation.

I was thinking the same thing! Every time I see an abandoned house I wonder the exact same things.

Re: A rustic afternoon jaunt around the neighborhood - video

Maybe I'm showing my age...I remember some of these old places when they were occupied..knew the people there..remember the times we had playing in the haymows etc. Keep lots of pictures of some of those times and places..and people..some of those people I really miss.
This is my Grandmother when she was about 14 years old...she had a pet badger and she is sitting in front of the house her father ( whom I was named after) built in 1897. The house still stands although no one has lived in it for about four years. My Grandmother was born in this house and had Thanksgiving in it until she was 97 years old. She died three years ago at 102. This old house has lots of memories for me. I fly over it every once in a while and landed my 170 there but have no pictures of the plane with the house.

This is a mind blowing photo... so much history behind it...would be neat if you had an old photo of the house and a newer one to see how it kept... where is this at? I too, although guessing much younger than you (!) have an old family house, now on 5th gen and hope it will stay with the family for years. thanks for sharing the stories, gret tread.

Cheers, BCT

Re: A rustic afternoon jaunt around the neighborhood - video

Good one HC,
Neighbors had a pet raccoon and as it got to its equivalent teen age years it began to get aggressive in temperament and had to be turned out. Still came around for the free meal when pickings got slim. Always a danger of rabies with them and I wouldn't make a pet out of a raccoon for that reason. My mother did have a couple orphaned deer and a pet antelope named Joey who was orphaned after birth when the mother was found dead by the road. Joey stayed in the house and laid on the porch like a dog. When he got older he followed the tractor and feed wagon around through the feed yards to feed cattle. That antelope was smarter than any deer they ever had but when it reached puberty it got aggressive and chase my mother in law who lived two miles away back to her house when she walked down the drive to the mail box. I tried to turn him back to the wild a couple times but he wouldn't go, even when in sight of other antelope. Finally gave him to the zoo in Watertown and they sent it to the Kansas City Zoo.
If I can come up with pictures we'll need an unusual pet thread. Your grandmothers badger will be the first one. Its so cuddly.

Re: A rustic afternoon jaunt around the neighborhood - video

I hate to steal Matt's thread here..he has a cool pictire there. What I will do is round up some other photos to compare the place over the years..from 1897 until present and start a new thread. My Grandmother had to turn the badger out...far away from the house....it kept eating all of the eggs in the hen house.
I'll bet there is a lot of history out there with all of the old abandoned buildings. I'm especially interesting in the old mining buildings and machinery that used to be found in the Colorado mountains.
