AD 2016-14-05, Cessna 175, 175A (amended today)

....14 CFR Part 39
[Docket No. FAA-2016-5579; Directorate Identifier 2016-CE-010-DA; Amendment 39-18586; AD 2016-14-05]
RIN 2120-AA64
Airworthiness Directives; Textron Aviation Inc. Airplanes AGENCY: Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), DOT. ACTION: Final rule. ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
SUMMARY: We are superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2008-15-06 for certain Textron Aviation Inc. Models 175 and 175A airplanes (type certificate previously held by Cessna Aircraft Company). AD 2008-15-06 required checking the airplane logbook to determine if the original engine mounting brackets had been replaced. If the original engine mounting brackets were still installed, the AD required repetitively inspecting those brackets for cracks and replacing any cracked engine mounting bracket until all four original engine mounting brackets were replaced.....

I've got a full set of them hanging on the wall....all 4 cracked, and if my memory doesn't fail me, at least 2 cracked above AND below the bolt.
(and the owner wanted me to hang an O-470 on it, and was complaining when I replaced them!)

All 4 of mine were cracked on my 1960 c-175, removed and replaced with a double system of our own design.(amateur build)

I hope I dodged that bullet, mine is a B model, sporting a O-360. Will check with mechanic to be sure.

I'd be for getting in there and doing a really close look anyway!!!

I found the ones hanging on my wall, back in the mid 90's. Submitted a M & D report.... nice to see it only took this long for an AD. :?

I have a 175 project airplane that I took the wings off of, trailered home to Alaska and then have stored ever since. It has the o-360 too but I am not sure exactly which parts this A.D. refers too. When I go to work on it I will definitely educate myself and know a lot more but I would be interested in pictures or more description of what is the location of the problem.

I found a picture of the brackets on the 175/SkyLark site. I'm wondering if there where changes were done to the new replacement brackets as the A.D. becomes non applicable once new brackets are installed and the old ones are rendered unusable. Must be an upgrade of some type or the brackets would tend to fail or need continued inspection?

I am interested to hear or see any pictures of what you did, I just looked up the cost to replace my 4 brackets........its not pretty. Even though the AD says they are $137.00/ea the best price I can find for the brackets totals close to $2,000.00, which is crazy, I'd rather let the engine fall off.
