IMO, this is just the tip of the iceberg in new technology coming to this market.

I talked with these Guys at OSH and they are the real deal.
They made SCOUT for ForeFlight @ 199$ that does most of what Stratus does at 900$
Also the LED will save power.

HUH? Where does it say that?

What about the "anonymous" mode?

https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/14/91.225

§ 91.225:

(f) Each person operating an aircraft equipped with ADS-B Out must operate this equipment in the transmit mode at all times.

(g) Requests for ATC authorized deviations from the requirements of this section must be made to the ATC facility having jurisdiction over the concerned airspace within the time periods specified as follows:

(1) For operation of an aircraft with an inoperative ADS-B Out, to the airport of ultimate destination, including any intermediate stops, or to proceed to a place where suitable repairs can be made or both, the request may be made at any time.

Purely speculation on my part with this one, but I think “anonymous mode” still satisfies paragraph (f) above. It just doesn’t broadcast your tail number.

From page 23 of the online installers / user's guide for their EchoUAT gizmo:

"Note that anonymous mode is only active if a flight plan has not been filed (per AC 20-165)."

Is this legal for certified aircraft? from their Q&A its says experimintal and light sport....

Yes, echo does meet the FAA’s 2020 ADS-B mandate for Experimental and Light Sport Aircraft when paired with a suitable GPS position source such as SkyFYX or a 2020 compliant GPS provided by your EFIS manufacturer.

Not quite yet, but they are working on it, and expect FAA approval “soon.”

Check their website for their latest estimate.

Re: ADS-B Out NavLight- now it's getting interesting

When we cut hay it always seamed to rain. So as soon as I have $5000.00 set up installed a $1000.00 set up will be approved. So here is the deal. I will set up a go fund me for the expensive one and then the cheap one will be approved. Just send a 100 bucks and in the long run you will save a fortune.

If you go for that then the next deal will be for a P-Ponk

Once the model with nav, position and strobe is released, (with a matching unit for the opposite side) I will probably jump in on this product.

Re: ADS-B Out NavLight- now it's getting interesting

For certified aircraft you'd assume this thing is going to cost 50% more, then add the strobe, the matching strobe and nav light to the other side. They might even add "in" capability. Now you're probably up to 3+ AMU's for a full system on certified a/c. Installation ease does look like a big cost saver tho.
